    Thanks for checking in, I still have some experiments in my "to do" list, and a few friends with older Dells... Looks like an October project though. I got a few ideas I would like to try. I have not heard of anyone else having success or even working on the older Dells. I will post when I do get around to it though, hopefully figure out something..

    The archive contains the modded bios file and I included the flasher files I unpacked from the Dell updater, run Afuwin as administrator (I think, maybe AMIWinflash), Dell named the bios with a bin extension so either choose " all files " when looking for the new bios with Afuwin or rename 881D1D39_SLIC.BIN to 881D1D39_SLIC.ROM, select that as the new bios file and from what was reported back, it should flash. I do not have an AMI bios so I have not tried the Dell AMI flasher myself, it won't even run on mine. If that doesn't work for you or it gives you an error, report back and let us know.

    Hy. I have a dell studio 1537 laptop n series. So it has no slic information. Slic is not present. Can i flash the bios with the modded version that contains slic 2.1 info from the first post? Or that's only for people with dell 1537 with slic 2.0? Thanks.

    What is the difference between "n-series" and not? At the download-page from dell there is only one 1537..... the bios A09 from 27.05.2009 have slic 2.0...

    regards,
    harry

    @harry015

    I've done some digging. From what i understand the n series have certain bios features "hidden" including the slic table. There is no difference between the bios file of a computer with vista preinstalled and a bios file of an "n series" (with freedos preinstalled). But somehow there are custom settings from the bios that remain after the flashing(one of the settings is the hidden silc option). In order to reset the setting (so that the hidden slic option is disabled) you have to use svctag (dell internal department tool) witch also replaces the service tag of you're computer. Unfortunately the latest svctag i found is from 2003 (vers 3.4) and does not work with dell 1537. So i guess i'll have to wait until a newer version is leaked.

    hokay update:

    After recovering my bios several times after messing with the mini 9 bios on the first page it doesnt appear to work, for me at least, merek contacted me and gave me a link for another modded bios for the vostro which initially didnt work (error 144) but then i flashed my bios with an earlier version (A02 bios for vostro) and it flashed fine, tested it with the dell key and it didnt work :s

    edit - finally activated, hooray

    dyserth, great! What combination finally worked for you, so we can pass it on? Also, if I can ask what method you used for bios recovery?
