    Sorry for the trouble but I have a DELL Vostro 1700 notebook so I need to ask for a modding of the original bios or can I just download and install someone in first page already modded as example for the Inspiron 1720 or Vostro 1500?

    thanks a lot for the help

    Hi
    I tried O755slic.exe and it works but I have one thing to say, boot screen logo is missing,as I can see only one CRC needs to be calculated to fullfill bios.hdr at 0xF0054 (lenght 4 bytes ), I have one question why not rip off one byte before CRC32 but it is done somwhere at 0xD0050 ? since this block completly belons to rom.
    checked the slic with slicdumptoolkit all OK
    reflashed again with org O755_A14.exe boot logo screen appeared again as it should normally
    Regards ficho

    it's better using HP usb disk storage format tool to create your usb bootable key with a windows98SE bootdisk iso that u extract to use with the HP tool that creates the USB bootable key.
    then u put your original bios.exe on the usb key with the modded bios.gz
    u boot on your usb key
    then on prompt you type : bios.exe -readgzfile
    the dell flash tool will start and it will check the crc checksum, type yes to flash and it's done.
    i think it's better than flashing from windows.

    Some Dell bioses have bootblock, I have found vague instructions for some. I do have 2 6400/e1505 boards right now of my own that are bricked. I have an idea though and will likely try it out later today... But for the most part
    How good are you at ordering a new board from ebay and replacing the old one?

    Two points:

    1. Not all Dell bios.exe tools will accept the -readgzfile parameter
    2. The Windows utility does not flash from Windows--same as the official Dell bios.exe utilities. When you run from Windows it reboots the computer and flashes during the POST stage.

    i didnt know the first point, thanks ;)

    for people that get a bad flash, is there a method to recover with dell phoenix bios like put a specific named bios on a dvd and it will auto flash on boot by trying reading on dvd to find a specific named exe ?

    This is wat I get when I try to flash Inspiron 9400 using the 1705SLIC.exe (Windows Flasher) found in post #2

    Code:
    - <root>
    - <command name="flash_load">
      <property name="checkpassword" value="" errorcode="0xFFFFFFFB" />
      </command>
    - <command name="biosupdate">
      <property name="task" value="Failed." errorcode="0x1" />
      </command>
      </root>
    As far as I can understand that, it failed to flash my bios.

    I then tried the Dos flasher and I get an error saying:
    Code:
    Invalid command line parameters

    Please verify the program was executed properly
    Any ideas?
