rename it to bios.rom, Flash in pure DOS. Some flash in Windows (WinFlash runs as Admin ) As Usual, Prepare bios recovery before flashing.
I tried to use the -writedhrfile and -writeromfile switches on the Vostro 1710 BIOS exe obtained from Dell, but it just launches the WinPhlash utility without producing the .hdr and .rom files. I would like to do this modding process on my own. Can you tell me the steps you used to obtain the .hdr and .rom files so that I can follow the guide and produce the necessary BIOS on my own? Regards, niche99
From Dell Website, Bios version is A10, mine is A12 ( i keep the bios file, not .exe file ) run .exe file, the bios.rom in C:\windows\temp\winPHlash Copy the folder of WinPHlash, you see the bios.rom, and all windows flash files. Edit This .exe file does not generate .hdr file as other .exe files As you can see, only .rom file in that folder.
I have done this, but I do not see a .hdr file in the winphlash folder. How do I generate the .hdr file? Regards, niche99
Are you willing to detail the steps you used to edit the .rom file, so I can reproduce the modded BIOS for myself? I have A12 myself too. Regards, niche99
You will need to edit that bios as a pheonix bios, not as a dell bios.. no hdr file exists for that model. -hope that clears that up?
Dell Dimension C521 I was wondering what program to use to flash my bios. It is currently running version 1.1.11 but they use an exe to update. Thanks.
@takasuite @shakeyplace I will try. But why not produce a guide, like that at the start of this thread, which details the steps involved in modding this kind of Dell bios? That way others can reproduce and assess the steps involved and assure themselves that the BIOS they are flashing is not harmful. Regards, niche99
D630 BIOS link seems to be dead. Since Optiplex 755 is discontinued future BIOS updates will not have SLIC 2.1
dell Inspiron 1545 shakeyplace I have a dell Inspiron 1545 if i update the bios to A08 and put in the dell cart and win 7 key will win 7 be activated
works on my 1545... on any of my pcs from dell with the proprietory bioses any updated slic is shown, the exceptions are "n" series where the bios has to be put in manufacturing mode and servers in which at least some have to be put in manufacturing mode whenever the slic is updated.. I suppose that may be part of the reason that Dell seems to be moving towards regular bioses
