This is usually only true if BitLocker or other encryption is being utilized. I can pull my windows Vista/7 OS drive out and put it in any other pc that supports NTFS as a secondary drive and i have never not been able to retrieve all the files, even from the user folders.
I didnt say it was impossible, but its a pain. You can go and search through the drive easily, its only when you go into c:/documents and settings/%user% you run into problems. Unless your the same user from a hdd image. Otherwise it wont let you access other users documents. You can copy the whole folder over to a different drive and sort through it though. Thats why you dont put important things in mydocuments.
I've just tried the Inspiron 1525 Windows version flash to 2.1. I created a new folder in the root and ran as administrator. It rebooted and hung at the "Performing BIOS Update..." screen. I left it for 20 mins and then turned off. It rebooted OK but (as expected) had not updated the bios.
I used the first "1535" mod, and got my 1535 black out...it can't be lighted up now... I used it as administrator... I'm not angry, so no worry, just a bit sad...
Just flashed my Inspiron 1525 from dos. Sucess - no problems. RW Everything and Everest look good. So for me the Windows version fails but the dos one is fine. ymmv
I am so sorry to hear, I deleted the link immediately, checked the file and all appears to be modded exactly as all the others, didn't see any errors, nothing different or out of ordinary -Shakey I did that with 2 motherboards testing as well, Ebay was my friend then... Bought new motherboard and replaced it,
1535 is a pretty new model--minimum Dell warranty in US is 1 year. Is it possible your laptop is still under warranty? If so just call Dell and tell them your computer won't boot. Let them step through and diagnose the problem. Depending on your warranty type they will either send you a box to mail it in for replacement or they will dispatch a tech to your house/business to replace the motherboard. Just because it bricked your motherboard doesn't mean that the modded BIOS was bad. You could have had a power spike or static shock at the wrong time... or maybe the BIOS chip was going bad and the act of trying to flash it killed it. There is always some element of risk in flashing a BIOS--even the stock unmodified ones. I've been there. Hope you get something worked out.
Please tell me how can i do to flash this BIOS in DOS? or tell me how do you do for flash it?. Thanks, in advance. Sorry for my english.
I tried the Inspiron 1525 Windows Flasher that was confirmed working....and it doesn't work. I run as Administrator, it reboots and says "Cannot find valid BIOS ROM file to flash" or something like that. Therefore it doesn't flash. Someone said they used a DOS version that worked for the 1525? I dont' see that one listed?
