I recently seen on the MS forums that later builds will have an option to turn on/off the metro ui start screen, which in my view is a good thing as i don't have a touch screen device.

Hopefully the option will be available in the beta build.:)

Thanks Faikee, this traditional desktop is much better for keyboard and mouse, metro is only good for hand held touch screen device. Any solution to remove the confidential bla bla bla?

To disable the metro start screen, and have the normal one. All you have to do is rename shsxs.dll to shsxs.dll.old. You still retain all of the extras, like the "ribbon", etc.

So this method is better than reg edit?

The only difference i noticed between reg tweak/shsxs.dll trick is with the latter, the ms confidential blah blah goes away, only the evalution part remains.

No performance and other issues? I mean we've been looking for shsxs.dll for so long, and now just disable it!

    fiddled around

thanks to the guy who had the idea with the registry hack to disable metroUI I fiddled around and found out what's the matter when you see no user logon after disabling RP.
It appears that you disable the live login at once with the metroUI and that's why the login fails for some persons.

First of all in system administration I created an offline user with admin permissions.
The I searched in HKEY_USERS instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and there exists the same options:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
    "RPEnabled"=dword:00000000

Disabling it per user brings several advantages, btw. let it enabled globally!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE RPEnabled has to be 1 to leave the live login & metroUI function enabled.

Setting the RPEnabled to 0 per User keeps the cool new login behaviour + live login option,
for other users you can disable the metroUI and bring back the "old startmenu" from windows 7.

Now I can choose at the nice new logon screen out of two user profiles, one with metroUI + 1 offline profile with the windows 7 startmenu.
The Taskmanager keeps functional & looks like back in windows 7!

When I change the name shsxs.dll i lose the ability to select wifi network. It does not show a list of available WiFi networks.

It will be 100% in Group Policy but might be accessible right from the Taskbar options, who knows... but it will be there, Microsoft knows that this user interface isn't exactly any advantage in a Company also there are some old fashioned users that don't like changes.
Heck right now the WDP is unlocked thanks to the RedPill included, the Beta/Final will not have this (why would it? currently its really easy to screw your windows thanks to it)

Stupid question, did you have any apps open at the time? I just checked mine again and it shows all opened apps.
