The question is an oxymoron because there is no such thing .
This question gets posted in just aboout every forum there is and the simple answer is : Whatever you are comfortable with using and whatever makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

There IS NO perfect antiviurs or security solution, never has been, never will be. What some catch others will miss and visa versa.

The BEST antivirus protection is the person at the keyboard. ;)

from free antivirus best is avast for daily using, from payed antivirus good is kaspersky antivirus not internet security which makes later many bugs in system but antivirus it should be installed in clean 100% free system cuz else it wont fork so effective and then it will be useless, for catching viruses i use three avast, dr.web and malwarebytes perfect combination ;)

    Microsoft Security Essentials

    REASONS:

    FREE
    HIGH DETECTION RATE
    VERY FEW FALSE POSITIVES
    RELATIVELY FAST
    FEW NOTIFICATION MESSAGES
    SMALL (7MB)

There's no reason to waste your money on paid software if it's not substantially better.

Don't believe everything you read, there is no such thing as a "top" antivirus software. EVERY antivirus software misses something. What you are protected against with one, you will not be with another. Use whatever you are comfortable with, surf with common sense and you'll be ok.

1.Which is the best antivirus among Eset Nod 32(ver 4),Microsoft security essentials and Avast? (or) any better one other than mentioned here.

2.Which is the best firewall among Comodo free firewall,Online Armor free and Windows firewall?(or) any better one other than mentioned here.

Please consider the effectiveness in performance and security of the system without affecting system performance exclude customer support.

3.Also suggest some portable scanners for the system.

avira started bundling useless crapware with its free version and / or suggesting other crapware which is uncalled for and really ruined it for me--still has the best detection rate of all the others though that's why this is a pity

i used to use avg for a few years but it started missing critical infections and it used to be a resource hog

i now use avast, but only the web rating, behavior shield, file system shield, all the other crap that comes with it is overkill and a resource hog.

if i didn't have as much ram as i do, i would probably just use MSE because i can manually fight nearly any infection i believe, and it doesn't use a ton of resources

    IMO, The best Antivirus System I used, is the Kaspersky;

An best security system, application protection, and many process running to prevent virus attacks...

In the moment, I use the Kaspersky Antivirus 2012 on my Notebook, and McAfee Antivirus Plus on Desktop, I like also of the McAfee, your detection engine is fast.

    One problem: The False-Positives.

Also have an cool application protection and many process running on the machine, locked by Services.

ESET Smart Security 5. Good detection rates, not so many FP's, i like the the UI, updating fast, is not using so much system resources.
