I have used Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender for years with great results. They have kept my PC virus free. It also depends on your actions using your PC. Our internet provider offers Kaspersky 2016 for free, but I don't use that, slows my system down too much. Here a couple of recent news stories about anti-virus companies that are very interesting. Google the story titles for links to the articles. There is a site that contains a lot of info about firewalls and security suits. The guy has various programs to test how secure they really are. Can“t attach a link, but check out "Matousec" on Google
I have been using this for years no BS just a simple virus scan. runs very fast runs on win 10 I just ran it. It has found stuff the others have missed. says trial but all it does is turn off the auto updates after 30 days and you have to do manual updates buy it's easy to do and there is a link to the page on the scanning box I can't post links yet but here's there site srnmicro.com
Hello, I currently have Bitdefender and it works like a charm but the problem is that it used a lot of RAM, and while scanning it uses anywhere from 70% to 99% of the CPU. So I was wondering, what ANTIVIRUS program is the same or around the same as Bitdefender but uses less RAM and CPU?
You didn't mention what OS you are running, but the user is the best and least intrusive active anti-virus and you already have it. Combine that with a simple daily run of Malwarebytes and you should be good. Win8->10 use Defender that is built into them and you will not even know it is running until it see's something and questions it. Anyway... If you cannot trust your own habits on the net, you will have to sacrifice some performance and run 3rd party AV's. ESET, BitDefender, Avast all will suffice.
I have Windows 10. Also I dont like Defender as it does not offer as much customization as these do. So if you had your choice, which would you can is the best and runs the least RAM and CPU?
without actually running a bench on all of them, BidDefender has always been a good choice for many, small footprint and fairly unobtrusive. Personally I have always liked ESET, but that is me.
I use Emsisoft Anti-Malware I have 7 years and never have problems. System is light work not huge ram use.
Yes it does, it scores very well. I use Windows Defender along with Malwarebytes in conjunction with Microsoft EMET v5.5.5736.25442 for Windows 10
