    Really!?

I cannot believe as far as we have come in the digital age that people still must post stuff like this.

There is not an antivirus that is made that will save you if you don't use the most powerful antivirus there is .......... common sense.

Don't believe those tests, never have, never will. I believe the best test results are sold to the highest bidder. POST THE QUOTE FULLY NOT PARTS THAT CAN HELP YOU MAKE SMALL REMARKS AND POINTS OF NO INTEREST TO ANYONE

Here we have another one…or probably the same one reregistering for parrot-like repetition. And deserving the same answer. With his very first post, before contributing one single thing himself, all he can do is attack contributors.

A non-contributor of zero value, with cheap transparent posting tricks, really not worth my time replying to him.

It is unfortunate that some people join discussion forums when they know nothing about mature exchange of opinions.

In a proper discussion, anybody can disagree with the OP or anybody else and state his reasons. This is not only acceptable, but indeed expected as part of the exchange, since no productive discussion can take place if everybody agrees.

What spoils the discussion and provokes a quarrel is when someone, instead of addressing the subject and the arguments, launches an unprovoked personal attack on the poster.

This gets even worse, when the attacker makes no useful contributions to the board himself, and only undermines those who try to contribute something useful.

So in this particular case, while nobody has to accept the comparison results of the AV tests, and can freely say so, I certainly owe no apology to anybody for posting them. I personally consider them both correct and useful and leave others to make up their own mind.

Bottom line is that such trolling behavior, if allowed to continue and spread, will eventually lead to people just not posting anything they consider of value. After all, nobody is obliged to post anything for the sake of others. And while the contributor can live with lack of appreciation and ingratitude, he won’t accept receiving personal insults instead.

I use Symantec Endpoint Protection. Along with Malwarebytes Antimalware and TDSKiller (utility) for rootkits. Works well.

Still scan with Spybot for stubborn stuff, but generally manual removal from safemode first

    Safe mode
Reset IE to default from tools > internet options > advanced
    Clear all temp folders

Delete any bad startup entries in:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Check for and delete any suspicious entries in:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

Boot into normal mode and run scans with malwarebytes / Spybot / above suggestions ^^

Install Avast free AV and schedule a boot time scan > reboot for scan (Scanning before Windows loads = ability to delete malware before it becomes a locked running process)

Spybot is good but it seems to have problems with Windows 10.

  11. As a manual on-demand scanner I would recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

For portable solutions, you can use:
    • AdwCleaner
    • RogueKiller
    • Junkware Removal Tool
    • Hijack This
    • OTL
    • RKill
    • TDSKiller
    • ComboFix
Always get the above tools from bleepingcomputer.com.

Whats wrong with Microsoft Security Essentials? I´ve been using for a really long time on a lot of computers I own and manage, now Defender on Win10, and not a single issue in years.

I love MSE but I don't think you can use it if you're activated with DAZ, isn't that true?
I'm sold big time on Avast Free, but do a custom installation and only install the minimum number of components. For myself I did nothing but File Shield. Also, your PC will run a lot faster if you turn off some of the settings, things such as "Reputation Services" (IE: 100% spyware, lol).

Avast is a truely genius idea, they just helped ccleaner to infect some of the greatest electronic corporations like Intel, Microsoft, Sony, Akami, Epson, MSI, Cisco, Linksys, Samsung and HTC... All people who know nothing about security, obviously.

The biggest problem with malware is.... YOU! As long as you do not do anything really stupid, you are safe with MSE. I am not a specilist at all, but I uninstalled Avast, when they brought their all-out sniffing and data harvesting new version "for free"!

I have met people who opened an e-mail attachement from an unknown sender in spite of the fact that it was called an .exe file!

Unless you do something stupid (many say installing Win10 is very stupid) you will be safe with MSE. Run Malwrebytes once week. I like it, tells me once a week, I am clean....

+1 for Avast. I has been using Avast Free for years and it is really good.
