ClamAV ist open source and it's not like other av software. It is more to use when needed and not a realtime scanner like the others.
ANY other av software, from the developers that provide payed subscription to get the full feature set, will be integrated on operating systems kernel level to "provide security" and wants to get information about your usage.
On the other hand with the depth including the av into the operating system you will get more security issues as without.

There are many other tools out their. If you use Windows 10 and higher you have built-in Microsoft Defender. Its enough for typical usage.
If the developer make mistakes, and they do for sure, then it doesn't depends if you use Microsoft, Kaspersky, Avast, ESET and all the others...
In the past, their where enough cases of wrong virus signatures so when they got published over the update feature ot the av and afterward they deleted the wrong files and operating system got useless.

For those who never caught a malware in 42 years of continuous PC usage, no matter if kids thinks this is a joke.

    Agree
    No av can replace brain
    Don't use a/v ..
It's like cross path with blind eyes
With 50 precent to be hit by car ..
    Using brain.. you're 100% safe

A system of a decent user doesn't have even the smell of that giant spyware.

Use Nod32 if you really can't live w/o an antivirus.

You made me think about the need to use antivirus. In the browser I use Ublock Origin, I deleted the security center and Windows Defender, the firewall is just the core. And using Avira Pro.
Nod32 seems lighter, but it doesn't have a firewall.
Would Avira be better with its own firewall or Nod32 with a Windows firewall? Do you use Windows firewall?

The brain won't detect zero-days, etc.

Given that, follow the performance ratings from AV Comparatives, and then couple that with malware and real-time protection.

For paid, try McAfee and Kaspersky. For free, try Kaspersky. Don't forget that several of these have gaming mode.
