Given that everybody is monitoring, personally I'd rather be monitored by the Chinese than my own authorities.

Hi. I'm in search for a VPN, because I want to watch US Netflix content -- here in Europe, it is much more limited. So far I'm considering NordVPN and StrongVPN though I'm leaning towards NordVPN more, because I heard it is faster. Any thoughts?

I have been using Pia for many years now, and except for one short period, when there was the big change about a year ago, it has never let me down, and I must say the information which they give on reddit is at least comprehensive. The return of the live chat will be a good thing. Even though, when I had a problem with payment a short time ago, their response and their fix of the problem per e-mail was impressive. It took all of three days, and my VPN service was not interrupted for one minute..

The one problem I fear may be coming, may be their corporate seat, which implies the jurisdiction they have to adhere to. In many of our strictly neo-liberal “democracies” in the end it is the multi-national corporations whose lawyers are writing the laws, and what used to be parliaments, only rubberstamp them in the end, without interfering.
In the big four western democracies not a single one has a political party left, which will work in the interest of the people.
So sooner ort later we will have to deal with laws that prevent VPNs from doing what users them pay for…. even allow the VPNs to tell their customers about the change.

In Proton’s Switzerland however the governments actually do follow even those privacy laws, and so sooner or later a switch to Proton may become advisable, even though they the cost twice what PIA charges.

Aside of this we will always have the problem, that we cannot know if they tell us the truth, when they say that they keep no records…

I have heard that NordVPN drastically reduces download speeds, is it true ?
I am asking because I have a 10mbps connection and if it is reduced further, it would take ages to download !
    Regards

All VPN always reduce your download speed, but ExpressVPN and NordVPN are the fastest VPN. Just use trial period to find out.

I do not use VPN for surfing and downloading, unless there is a reason for that, like geo limit or avoid copyright trolls.

Lately I'm using NordVPN Proxy Extension for Chrome. It's really fast.

That post was rather old, you missed the date?
And your skepticism is healthy... If I were to read that "free" in combination with "credit card details" I would be laughing out loudly...
But I could not find such a request on their site.

I also enjoy the idea downloading something from google's shop to give me anonymity,I might as well get something for free from Trump.
I also noticed that ALL their servers stand in countries that are owned by US-fans..
I just checked their website, and i found too many details smelling funny.....

Always remember that (almost) ALL vpns tell us that they do not keep records, and that we have NO way to check this.
As they say never fix something that ain't broken.

I use ProtonVPN free for testing and I was pleasantly surprised with their speed. I got ~50 mb/s down and up.
I don't need to do VPNs for torrents for 2 main reasons: private torrent sites and free country :)

That is simply not true... Let me make aguess... you work for them?
I know several people, who like me have used the free version and the speed is a joke, and the paid version is too expensive.
PIA costs one third, and is as fast.
