Depends on your CPU. Any fairly recent CPU supports the SSE3 instruction set, so, the SSE3 builds are fine. SSE2 build is only for CPUs not supporting SSE3.
So for PCs that can support Windows 10 x64 (which obviously have SSE4) can I use the SSE3 browser? And for PCs that do not have SSE2, use the browser marked as Thorium SSE2?
For CPUs with at least SSE3 support (SSE4 and SSSE4 are newer), SSE3, SSE2, SSE or IA32 builds run. SSE2-capable CPUs use SSE2, SSE or IA32 builds. CPUs without SSE2 are restricted to SSE or IA32 builds. And last but not least, CPUs without any SSE can only use IA32 builds. Important note, the SSE and lower restrictions only apply to 32bit-only processors. Every processor capable of running 64bit instructions automatically has support for at least SSE2. Windows 7, Vista and XP run on non-SSE2 CPUs, but you cannot apply all updates, as MS silently switched to packages requiring SSE2 at some point.
Since this thread is pretty long, I think it would be a good idea to pin to the top a list with browsers that support Windows 7 and those that can be hacked it, and list the last versions of those that can't. For example: SUPPORTED OR CAN BE HACKED: Firefox and forks: Firefox, up to 115 ESR (receiving updates until the next ESR) Pale Moon ("no plans to drop support") SeaMonkey Basilisk Browser Waterfox non-Classic Waterfox Classic (probable abandonware) (email) Thunderbird up to 115 ESR (receiving updates until the next ESR) Google Chrome/Chromium and forks: Chrome (cracked by Blaukovitch up to date - last official version was 109) Supermium (based on Chromium) Thorium (based on Supermium) Yandex? (based on ?) NOT SUPPORTED: Chromium? Edge Brave Opera Vivaldi ungoogled-chromium Feel free to correct / add / update
There is already a list on page 1 : https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/browser-support-for-windows-7.86383/#post-1773711
O-M-G Thanks for the warning ! I was about to finally try his browser on the weekend. Guess it isn't happening...
