Ff no longer works properly after yesterdays update Firefox 115.12 will no longer let me open sites which I have been using for 20 years and, of course, they do this for my own protection... I cannot remembering asking them for that kind of protection. I remember something like they will tell me what they think about that site, but then let ME choose if I want to open that page or not. Is there a possibility to uninstall the update, as 115.11 worked perfectly fine, or an other working version, AND then to stop Ff permanently to update? On the other hand, is there a browser that does what a browser is supposed to do, and actually still supports Win 7? Thank you
Yes you can disable FF Updates through a Policy File Create a policies.json file and store that file into the "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\distribution" folder. Create a "distribution" folder in \Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ folder and place that policies.json file into that folder that has the following code: Code: { “policies”: { “DisableAppUpdate”: true } }
Thank you, but first I have to get rid of this update. Will Windows "System restore" also remove Firefox to an earlier state?
Thank you, for the links ryegrass, I will have to look at the security issues with that downgrade... Thank you John, I already have a lot of experience with Ff profiles...
Have a couple of backup browsers ready to go on the off chance Mozilla kills FF ESR. Sep2024 was the final date. You guys are saying we Win7 users are a big enough group to make us valuable? FF ESR may continue to receive security updates into 2025? Sounds good to me. I also have my favorite flavor of Linux ready to go. When Win7 stops due to lack of support I will go to Linux & continue to use the software I am already familiar with. Good news. Continued good hunting all. ;>))
I wonder if this means they will simply bump up the ESR version from 115 to 128 and allow compatibility with W7/8.x If that's the case it should be at least 1 additional year of support.
The reason it is frozen at 115 is because of updates & changes for Win10 & 11. I don't expect them to extend beyond 115 with anything but ESR updates. If they take us beyond Sep 2024 I expect them to take care of security only. I have alternatives picked for myself in case we are abandoned by Mozilla in Sep. It is a wait & see game.
Ha ha, a different response to what I got on an Australian forum, deleting most posts that are written to block that it's possible. Will have a look at what you posted, thanks
