May not matter much as we lose the server updates we use now for Win7 in Jan2026 & that will be decision time for most. My backup OS is Zorin Core & it works well for me. It becomes my primary OS when no more security updates are provided for Win7. With an updated Linux distro I have access to updated browsers etc. & my critical sites stop complaining that I might be a security risk due to outdated software. Will keep in touch here at MDL. One never knows; M$ might produce another good OS with privacy built in by, say, Win 25 or so. lol Nah. Who are we kidding. Zorin becomes my daily & everything becomes smooth, why would I come back? You are correct. I wouldn't. Good hunting all & caveat emptor.
I guess the internet has suggested the Linux versions of system restore are slower and more cumbersome than Win 7 system restore? Thanks, I'll have to give that a try
Patched Edge 139.0.3405.119 on Win7 Pro ESU build 6.1.7601.27869 thanks for the help @@ELF_7719116 and QQ
Interestingly, FF115 outlived FF128. Mozilla could have supported Windows 7 and 8.1 up to 128 from the start.
Firefox 115 ESR for Windows 7/8.1 will be available until version 115.33.0. This update will be released in February 2026, which means that Firefox 115 will be listed as EOL (end of life) when it is released on March 24, 2026.
Look, you are just partly right with that. Windows 7 can‘t run 128 ESR natively. Even with VxKex it crashes after some time BUT Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2 can! I tested every version after 115 on these systems - There wasn‘t anything „new“ introduced till FF130, which would inhibit it from running on 8.1. Just like my predecessor said, it‘s not a thing of „can“ but „want“ Just stating facts here
Maybe I drifted off "your" topic but hit mine dead on. And, for the record, your conclusions are completely "CORRECT". I agree 100%. With all of these "companies" they decide to support or not support certain software releases usually based on cash. As you said; want to. For Win 7 I feel they could have waited till 128/130 to go ESR. Maybe easier for them not to worry about testing, other than security fixes on Win 7, any longer. Has been a good run just the same. Google & Chrome were the bigger disappointment but NOT unexpected.
I've been quite happy with r3dfox ESR 128 and 140 so far. Haven't used Firefox 115 in over a year or so.
