Currently, I am trying the combo Waterfox Classic 2022 (for legacy addons + full skins) + R3dfox ESR (140) as the main modern/secure browser as the 2 main ones, however, I noticed that R3dfox has some bugs, most crucial one, randomly, it breaks the function of ProtonVPN addon. On the contrary, latest Chrome port by Blaukovitch doesn't break any function...
Everything has bugs, sometimes they are not even visible. As for me, i find RedFox pretty much ok. I'm not using vpn plugins, prefer to do things my way on a lower level. In terms of javascript performance Firefox surely lose to chrome-based stuff, especially in gpu work loads.
Running a legacy OS, you have to make some compromises. For example, in Waterfox Classic, webp support needs to be disabled, as it has an unpatched vulnerability.
People actually use WFC? I dropped it years ago for Firefox ESR because of how dog slow (and increasingly unusable) it became.
Yep, there wasn't a single update for February 2026 "patch Tuesday" for Windows 7/Server 2008 R2. I'm waiting to see when Mozilla stops updating Firefox ESR 115. I heard awhile back that the last update would be 115.37.0. It's currently at 115.32.0.
Indeed it doesn't look good for FF ESR 115. The Mozilla Team removed the message that they will re-evaluate for another extension in February 2026. This may indicate that they already made up their minds and don't plan to extend again... Original Message : Oh well, version 115.33 will be released on February 24th, maybe they will clarify then...
Redfox beats Firefox out of the water. I'm not sure Chrome can be any better irrespective of how much it screws my hardware and my bandwidth.
Natively, that was G6.0.20 I believe. Newest running with patch is 6.5.10, everything beyond is unreliable. SSE4.2 is required since 6.6.x IIRC.
Been getting mild upgrade notices from my NFCU & 2 investment platforms (Vanguard & Robinhood) for about 18 months now. Has reached the point where it is slowing down my logins & limiting some of my access. Guess in the next 2 or 3 weeks I may try a fork mentioned here or take the Zorin plunge (my secondary OS). I am running FF 115.33.0 & that is probably the last unless something new sneaky & nasty is discovered & fixed. A couple of the forks mentioned here sound as if they have potential to extend my Win7 run on my Acer laptop. Being lazy & procrastinating. I do really like my Win7. WU still working & keeping MSE up to date. I am going to check out some of the suggestions here of forks that are modifying new versions specifically for Win7. Thanks for a long ride & all the extra info from extra eyes. ;>))
I'm really leaning toward choosing R3dfox over Firefox (Nightly) by e3kskoy7wqk. I like the fact that the Profile folder, and userChrome customization can be accessed via R3dfox settings, and that they provided a link in the browser to the latest version updates as well as the fact that the the R3dfox installer has a upgrade option which keeps all of my current settings. In addition I was able to transfer my userChrome settings so that version 148.0 looks identical to my Firefox 115.33.0 esr. P.S. Since Firefox version 143 any userChrome urlbar modifications requires .urlbar instead of #urlbar syntax in order to work properly.
Lots of folks have good things to say about this browser for those needing a more modern version browser to replace the 115.33.0 esr FF version. Still considering myself but getting complaints from some sites to upgrade my FF 115. Banks & investing platforms mostly. Will have to soon. Feedback here from those like yourself are appreciated. Thanks..
