As safe as you can get with a backported browser. The OS is the real problem, I wish updates could also be backported.
Lol. That has been the topic for several comments. Banks reacting negatively to version 115esr. Now being completely blocked. SOoooo, if the bank thinks you are using Win11 with a modern browser then you have full access again. If we continue to use Win7 years after all updates have stopped this is the only way it works. Something we use spoofs our actual OS & browser into something current the websites are tricked into giving us service. For it to work there must be a general consensus to trust those providing us with these modified browser versions. The ones being mentioned are being used by a large number of Win7 users without complaints. It is here in these forums where we find safety in those reports. IMHO Supermium is doing the job we require allowing us to exist in a more modern world with our outdated OS.
The problem is that Useragent spoofing does only help against Useragent scanning. There are other ways to check the browser and OS (like over JS, which banks require you to activate), might not be so easy to counter all of the possible checks.
Mozilla has just announced that Firefox 115 will be extended till March 2027. Personally, good for Windows 7/8 users, however they could have supported them till 128 or 140. Would have been a better base than patching a three year Browser version
I agree. I am currently using FF vr 140.11.0 nightly for several things that simply don't work with 115 any longer. Only a minute before I will be using Zorin Core Linux OS full time to be completely up to date.
Good for people who don't want to use modded browsers but I don't really understand why Mozilla extended for almost another year. More and more websites (especially banks and such) are already refusing access to FF 115. They can backport all the security fixes they want but if websites don't work or only partially work, what's the point ? There's definitely a risk that Mozilla will damage its own image if too many things end up not working anymore.
At this point I would just recommend using R3dfox / Supermium for everything as they are reputable and actively maintained, although it's just one or two people working on both.

Even if certain websites reject older browsers, you can still use newer browsers on Win 7 through VMs or remote desktops. And for financial websites, many people only need to use those once a month to pay their bills anyway.
Maybe you should read my comment again. This time go slow & absorb what I am saying. I am not talking about maybes or pipe dreams. Real life as I am experiencing it today with Win7 & FF115. How old are you? 12? Your entire comment is useless for almost everyone 18 & older; earning a living & surviving in the real world while still using Win7/8 & FF 115 as their main OS/Browser. Life & time will retire Win7/8 & FF115; sooner rather than later; as websites are already rejecting both. The truth. For any adults visiting this forum. NOT just typing words to jack up my comment count. Hopefully actually being helpful to someone & contributing to the conversation.
You're vaguely complaining about my response for some reason, yet I don't see anything in what I said that contradicts what you said. If you want to leave Win 7 behind, you are free to do so. If other people want to continue using Win 7 indefinitely (but with minor workarounds), they are also free to do so. Nobody is correct or incorrect in whatever choice they feel is right for them. How old am I? Let's just say that I'm an IT professional and am within a few years of retirement.
In addition to r3dfox 152.0.4 and r3dfox 140.11 ESR, I been using the Firefox addon "User-Agent Switcher and Manager" and setting it to "spoof" Windows 10. Previously inaccessible sites that wanted Windows 10 are now working for me.
Hello to all Windows 7 users. My computer is a Dell XPS 9000 released in 2009. I'm 73 and have Leukemia and not planning to invest in anything newer. So what I've have done is to have a basic or limited install of Windows 11 in Virtual Box, with all bloat and spy stuff removed. There I have the latest browsers installed and there I only use Firefox for banking and this works fine. So in Win 7, I still still use ff115 and redfox portable and supermium portable which I update whenever available. These I use for regular web browsing. I've look at Linux and my brain just won't wrap around it. Thank you to all who are here for the input to help us with the problems we face while working in Windows 7.
If you want to try and install W11 on your W7 box, the highest number is 23H2 that you will be able to install. I was not able to install 24H2 or newer on my W7 box.
It depends on your Host CPU, it must support SSE4.2 and POPCNT for being able to install 24H2 or higher VM, as VirtualBox uses the Host CPU.
It's interesting to know when backporting of Firefox and Chrome will become impossible.. How many versions/time we have left?
