Apart from the problems which you can read about in the cnet reviews, Glary Utilities is in no way adequate to ccleaner.

Like Firefox the ccleaner people also had a great product, and instead simply keeping it up to date and make it safer, they added one piece of garbage, that no one except they themselves asked for, and kicked out other things instead, which now no longer work.

Ccleaner, like AV softwares, has access to EVERYTHING on our computers, it requires more trust than I can bring with me, to allow stuff like that on mine.
In reality there is no need for any AV software, as the one true threat, zero day exploits, or government spyware cannot be protected against.
But ccleaner at least did get rid of garbage, in particular cookies, and it seems it no longer will do that.

The people at Mozila and at Piriform are working for money and want to keep their jobs, which have in truth become obsolete.
That is understandable, but it has very ugle side effects.

  5. What is the Windows Registry? The registry is a database, several databases to be exact splitted in what microsoft calls it "hives". Whenever you add or delete items from a database, it increases it's size. The larger the tables, the slower windows will boot and login. Logic would dictate that having smaller items in the database will result in better performance, but if the database is extremely large, you get no performance gain. This was also the reason for the registry defragmenters which aimed to compress the registry, but it actually did nothing because you need to be outside of windows when even attempting these operations and most programs did them inside windows. And your registry cleaners just delete useless data that 1) fragments the registry and 2) it does not compress the tables.

Who said anything about cookies? I'm talking about system cleaner (SYSTEM as in registry and files of the OS and NOT 3rd party applications).

    You were lucky.

You have no idea about anything, yet you criticize me.

Unbelievable... 10 years just plain lucky? Then it will stay that way, I am sure.

Let me make a guess here, you are specialist in AI?

I have used Ccleaner and Glary for years without a problem. Can those who do not wish to use these programs please butt out, your argument has been heard and noted but I for one disagree. I just want to know which is the best alternative to Ccleaner other than Disk Clean-Up, as its already there its hardly an alternative. So JetClean looks good, BleachBit doesn't, Glary nags constantly, what else is worth a look?

Before I test it.... ccleaner lets me choose which cookies to keep and which ones to delete (except for one cookie). Does JetClean offer that too?

I like Jet Cleaner but I don't feel I have enough control over it, take a look, it wont bite. I have used it a few times and nothing was broken.

Been using latest CCleaner v5.33.6162 (15 Aug 2017), portable version I must add, and see no "side-effects" like new Avast ways of marketing, adware or anything undesirable. Just plain CCleaner working at its best. Can't say my opinion regards installed versions though.

So I'll keep using CCleaner as usual indefinitely.

I have to agree, Ccleaner portable is the best option at the present time.

^^^^I have to disagree. There may be some "shady" programs out there, but there are some registry cleaners that do the job. Registry is a database and can accumulate all sorts of leftovers from poorly designed software/uninstallers, not to mention file remnants... If one uses a decent uninstaller then maybe the usefulness of a decent registry cleaner could be questionable, but even so the idea behind registry cleaning utilities isn't just hokey pokey voodoo anymore and registry issues can be caused by things other than poor uninstalls... I don't quite understand where this propaganda like anti-registry cleaner mentality came from but either you haven't looked into the utilities, you've been buying into bogus info or you seriously need to invest in some exlax. Either way your facts are uncoordinated.

I have used reg cleaners in the past. During my early days on a PC some 30 years ago I did play with all these things with some disastrous results, but more recently when I have used them nothing terrible has happened. Out of interest what do you use?

Well, probably opening myself up to some abuse here but I've been using IOBit stuff for almost 5 years. I got a huge discount on Advanced system care so I just keep it renewed. Ever since, I've been using it on my childrens machines I have noticed that I have to do fewer re-installs to the operating systems, like never. My kids, they thrash a PC, all of them. I was hugely skeptical of IOBit and used a program, I forget what it was called, but it caused me to hate that company. But I tried ASC and it works pretty well and the price I pay 6$ for 6 copies a year so its worth it. You know IOBit has an image problem when someone like me despises the company but still will use the software...gads. They have lightened up on the pushiness of the upsell, compared to the way they were operating a couple of years ago. And I have left quite a few nasty-grams on their website (and malwarebytes, too --- they have a grudge with iobit that has caused them to become blinded with rage and as a result they act like a bunch of 10 year olds... many of the users seem to buy into it all, with cult-like madness)... but as reticent as I am to admit it I use iobit asc for almost anything windows, especially for those service call intensive clients. The registry cleaner is one of the best as far as I'm concerned and it certainly beats doing that task manually- I know that it makes a heck of a difference, especially if someone does a lot of install/uninstalls, etc -but even for general use there is a lot going on and off in the registry these days...

    Shocking revelation
I would like to suggest to use Glary Utilities as alternative to Ccleaner.
