Can a system image be made while the computer (laptop) is in use?

    TIA

Macrium works great also. I use it all the time. If you can find a copy of the free for personal use version as they changed the licensing and free version is no more.

I convert server drives from mbr boot to gpt/uef boot, or change drive structure. Use viboot to create hyper-v or vmware virtual machines or simply restore an image to a vhd for vm's. I am webexed in to a PC as I type this restoring an image saved on the server. It creates the winpe wim file, changes the boot order, boots winpe, restores the image then reboots the freshly restored computer. And it really works!

PS I just checked and PC, it was freshly restored waiting for me to login.

What's the point of restoring images on vhds, when you can copy, convert, resize them at will.

Dism and the Hyper-V manager (or equivalent powershell commands) is all you need. Forget macrium and other tools made for the 90s IT.

I am the topic starter of this thread. Some time ago, I emptied the first post because it no longer contained up to date info, and I don't have time to update it.
Now I only get topic reminders when people say "forget about disk imaging" or beg for videos on how to make a disk image (in very poor English, I might add, which is not a problem per se, but still I don't understand why you wouldn't even use correct punctuation. On the other hand: "How to do, we are new" does have a ring to it).

    So please delete this thread...

No need to act this way.

There aren't up to date info or not up to date one here.

Info are info, are always useful.

If using a disk imaging tool is stupid in 2024 IT, especially virtualized one, it's still relevant if you are dealing with retrocomputing, or with older scenarios for whatever reason.

    Deleting them isn't helpful.

Understanding when use and when not use a definite tool is.

    You're telling me?

Maybe I will do some updates later. If the only reactions are "using this is a waste of time", the thread will be removed. Gotta go now.
