Hello again all Upgraded win 7 to win 8 and all was working fine, just began to enjoy it. Just to try the windows media center installed it, the apps stopped working. Have done a fresh install and it is still doing the same, so i guess there is something else wrong. If anyone know why will appreciate it.
Well,i downloaded win8 64 bit and first time was a bugger. Then I formatted and ran again ,all fine now. Some bugs to work out and lots of learning new trick.lol.tried the key above for media player and didn't work.Went to one given for my file. The start app bites,so does the sidebar, hope all id fixed in final release.Fast like they said.Had all drivers.Ill keep it and see. Thanks all for help.
i have bug with IE 10 on win8rpx32 (again) ,when IE 10 not starting then skype 5.10... freezes and stuck
Well, I got to say, now that iv had a chance to learn to use windows 8 I love it. I like the apps and metro and all else. The only thing I want is watermark & hash gone.Im using 8400 build. And of course a long lasting key.lol.
January of 2013, you will be asked to purchase Windows 8, and your PC will start turning off every 2 hours.
Thanks, would be nice if there was loader program for it like win 7. Oh well, hope its not too expensive.
I cannot imagine that someone wastes his time to write a loader for 8400 as the RTM or final will be out soon.
Whatever bug was causing my laptop to crash, i could not trace it to any browser or program. It just happens and freezes the entire system. No harddisk, no explorer, no nothing I even tried to install Windows 2012 to see if the specific problem is in Windows 8 only, but that version crashes within 4 hours. Now i am back to Win7 and all is fine.
For the freeze problems, I would use Microsoft Basic Display Driver for some hours. If Windows 8 still feezes, then run it in Safe Mode and again try to use it for a couple of hours or more. With this you will know if it's a video drivers problem or not. On laptops, I still remember the problems I had with a Satellite A300 Pro and Windows 7 (Vista worked just fine). Everything froze because of a Trackpad incompatibility with Win7. After a BIOS update the problem was gone.
@jygoro Already tried that. Even replaced the drivers with W7 drivers, but it makes no difference. I do have 2 video-cards inside. An intel HD and a AMD Radeon that should work together to give good batterylife and performance when needed. But i suspect a incompatibility with these cards or with the SSD. When i say freeze i mean nothing to and from the harddisk and keybboard anymore. Desktop crashes inmediatly but running apps are "switchable" with alt+tab, but do not accept keyboard keys anymore. Even the task-monitor is still running, but cannot perform any tasks anymore when i select them.
Thanx Niekess....was happy to know that the post was useful for you...here i post nothing new.... If one wants to get all the shutdown options in a menu format do the following 1.Open notepad 2.Copy the following: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DesktopBackground\Shell\Power Menu] "MUIVerb"="Power Menu" "SubCommands"="lock;logoff;switch;sleep;hibernate;restart;shutdown" "Icon"="shell32.dll,215" "Position"="bottom" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\lock] @="Lock" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\lock\command] @="Rundll32 User32.dll,LockWorkStation" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\logoff] @="Log Off" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\logoff\command] @="Shutdown -l" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\switch] @="Switch User" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\switch\command] @="tsdiscon.exe" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\sleep] @="Sleep" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\sleep\command] @="rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Sleep" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\hibernate] @="Hibernate" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\hibernate\command] @="Shutdown -h" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\restart] @="Restart" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\restart\command] @="Shutdown -r -f -t 00" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\shutdown] @="Shut Down" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CommandStore\shell\shutdown\command] @="Shutdown -s -f -t 00" 3.Save the file with .reg (registry) format. for e.g. powerMenu.reg 4. double click on this saved file and it will add the entries in the file to the registry. 5. Right click on the desktop and u will find a new menu...name PowerMenu with all shutdown options. 6. Now no more hassles.... I will be posting some other registry tweaks later......
What CPU do you have? If it's an Intel Core iX, then it could be the widespread freezing problem people with these CPUs are seeing. Yes, mostly with browsers, but not necessarily exclusively. Try either disabling C States (or EIST) in the BIOS, or enabling Hyper-V. Those with either C States or EIST disabled (or unavailable) tend not to have the problem.
