I had freezing issues with CP, I found that my problem was my HDD drivers which was not correct /installed. I downloaded the Marvell drivers and did a manual update/install and all was fine afterwards. With RP i have no freezing thus far but some of the metro apps dont work such as Sport and Weather thus far. RP is faster for me so far. IE10 also working for me although i use Nightly.
Weird IE issue: can't enable the good-ol' favorites toolbar. Worked in the CP Everything else looks good so far... in VMware anyway
Guys and Gals, Many users are facing problem(s) with Windows 8 RP, like crash, hang, slow response, high CPU usage, etc. The simple solution of all these problem(s) is as follow: 1. Download all drives including Chipset, CPU (AMD), AHCI/Rapid Storage, Graphics, LAN Wireless, Bluetooth, and Sound (less needed as majority of sound drivers are built-in, but still OEM drivers are preferred coz of customization like SRS Premium, Dolby Digital, etc.) from OEM vendor or preferably from respective vendors, like Intel, NVidia, ATi, Realtek etc. Windows 7 drivers can be used for Windows 8 except Graphic driver as Windows 8 supports WDDM 1.2. Intel, NVidia, and ATi have already release beta drivers compatible with new display model of Windows 8. It is necessary coz Metro, Metro IE, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Games, etc. all are now hardware accelerated and without updated drivers, they will show problems. 2. Install Windows 8 3. Install drivers in following sequence: -Chipset + ACPI (in case of Asus/other mobo vendors) -CPU (needed for AMD only) -SATA/AHCI/Rapid Storage -Graphics -Others * Don't forget to update your DirectX. Latest version of DirectX is June 2010 (unfortunately old, but still needed for proper video as many codecs are DXVA accelerated). * Also install .NetFrameWork 3.5 via Windows Features. Check Windows Update for any other driver update. Have a nice upgraded experience !
Although the Classic shell is working in Win 8 RP, opposite to the what is being written(no classic start menu possible in Win 8 RP) on all the technical blogs, it only gives the one column "classic start menu" like this , I like two column start menu like this , how to get it, I was using the two column start menu in Win 8 CP by installing classic shell but now in Win 8 RP it is not working. And one more thing is that I can't save any single files on root of C:/, if I want to save any file I've to create a folder then save the file in the newly created folder.
Security Problems Yep, you were right about BCDEDIT. I had to run the command with admin rights. I should have remembered that from before. Deleting Windows.old was a little tougher, but I booted into WinPE and was able to delete it using RD /S /Q x:\windows.old. But even then there were 4 folders I could not delete and had to go into each one and take ownership before I could delete them. You know it shouldn't be this tough. I understand security but I think MSFT goes a little overboard sometimes.
Thanks for your reply. Actually it can also be achieved(I figured out after posting my previous post) by selecting "Two Column" option in the chosen skin under skin tab in settings page, if you change the skin under the skin tab, you have to select "Two Column" option for that skin. See the The link which you provide has nice settings(options like 'Hibernate') that can be added to the menu. Cheers.
Can someone tell me how the metro "Maps" app can pinpoint my address exactly on a fresh desktop installation of RP without any GPS or ever having logged in to any account of any sort on this installation. It did ask if it could use location information with the Maps app, but I was expecting it to use my IP to give an approximate location. Instead, it mapped my specific address, "X" marks the spot with full address information. The only way I can understand this happening is for my ISP to provide on-the-fly IP to physical address look up. Is there some other way?
Is there any hack for splitting screen on metro apps? As I've heard splitting metro applications aren't supported with lower resolutions. (lower than 1366px)
Why I get some video corruption when installing, then get "out of range" on the LCD after reboot ? Thanks
Does your computer have wifi? If so, it's probably pulling the location information from google's wifi location database (list of access points + locations) that they made with street view (not sure if Bing has an equivalent list made by Microsoft). Your ISP is not feeding your location to the program.
are you using a windows live id to sign in to windows if so ms has the address you used to sign up for that.
that must be the answer, eddy, i don`t think m$ or bing have acces to the competitions wardriving, as dwizzy130 suspected.. i hope not, anyway.. time to get behind a proxy..
