You're gonna think I'm nuts for asking this but do you use Google Chrome as your browser? If so that's your issue, I was having the SAME ISSUE and realized it was only happening when Chrome was open. Stopped using Chrome and it hasn't happened since.
i have been using all versions of chrome on win8RC,stable,beta,dev,canary,chromium. No freeze ups or hangs, all steady ,smooth and fast so far for the last 8 hours
This post is for people that are cursed with Intel HD integrated graphics, like I am. Run Custom Certificate Install as admin, then go to the W******ta_64_152254_SIGNED folder and run the setup.exe as admin and reboot when prompted, to get rid of the WDDM 1.1 driver. I was able to get Angry Birds Space to work on my Lenovo, following this procedure. This will also install OpenGL. Make sure to also install the latest DirectX. I had exactly the same problem with W8CP, same laptop, same specs (except for the cpu which is an i7). I tried everything i could think of, uninstalled most programs, updated all drivers, nothing worked so i went back to W7, going to try the RP to see if my problem is fixed.
same problem with the freezing. i do use use chrome but didn't not realise that it might be the cause. these freezing is what pissed me off with CP and RP, and i might even go back to windows 7 unless it gets fixed. i've been using live messenger too. even CTRL+alt+del freezes on me and i have to reset my pc. so anything man. any fixes for that?
Music app doesn't seem to handle huge libraries well. I have about 5,000 songs, it took awhile for the albums to load the 1st time but artists won't fully load. Only about a dozen or so load then it just suddenly cuts off but still lets you scroll.
8 Has defender built in which is exactly the same as MS Security Essentials which is a great AV solution so stick with that.
Windows 9 has been worked on for a while now, it will be the true 'Windows 7'. Windows 7 is 6.1, Windows 8 is 6.2. Basically it means Windows 7 is just a modified Windows Vista, and Windows 8 a modified Windows 7, hence the real version numbering being 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2. Windows 9 on the other hand is supposedly a new base, like Vista was a new base compared to XP. Whether they version the actual number as 7.0 (the real number) or 9.0 (the 'marketing' number) only time will tell I guess! I would expect even the RC to have some issues, its the final RTM and updates to the RTM that count. Some issues I have (preference wise) relates to it being seemingly portable/tablet oriented. In order of crapyness: - no start menu. Absolute lunacy, and no matter how well Windows 8 sells they could sell a lot more with a Start menu, seriously! It will possibly put those off who do move to Windows 8 from purchasing Windows 9 - no F8 boot option#. Not an issue until something goes wrong, in which case it would be a pain in the butt. Sure, you can get out the DVD or flash drive image etc, but its a hindrance that's unnecessary - administrator requirements. I hate this administrator requirements crap, it's a good thing for the 'average' user (and even then it can be problematic in certain scenarios), but for those that do want administrator use its really annoying - the Microsoft profile. I can see it may be useful in some scenarios, but for normal home use its more crap than not crap! It makes much more sense to just stick to using a local profile # yes I realise there is an F8 boot option, but having to boot into Windows first and then enable it for the next boot completely defeats its purpose.
