Windows 10 Build 10558 is an improvement over the two previous releases. My office icons where blank colored squares (only office) but not with this one. However, I had a total system crash and an application crash that were reported to M$. . Some stuff stopped working and some small applications disappeared from the installed list, but are still working.. I also had a problem with MS Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable. This was already installed and working, but for some reason Windows 10558 decided it needed to download and install KB2538243, which kept failing.. I tried cleaning the download cache and I downloaded it and manually installed it successfully but Windows update kept downloading it and failing to install. In case some one meets this problem, this is what I did at the end, which worked: From Control Panel, I tried uninstalling all C++ 2008 instances (I had 4). Some instances failed to uninstall giving a message that it cannot find "vc_red.msi" version "9.0.xxxx.yyyy" in folder "C\9876543210xxxx" or some other long number, this is what I did: 1- From the error message, copied the folder name and created the folder manually according to the path shown in the message (C:\) 2- Download the particular version (as in the error message) of VC++ 2008 into the created folder. 3- Using 7ZIP, right click on downloaded file "vcredist_x64.exe" and "Extract Here". 4- Ensured the presence of "vc_red.msi" after the extraction and tried uninstalling again, it worked. *- In one instance, I got the error again, I checked for "vc_red.msi" which was present, but was the wrong version. I typed the VC++ 2008 Redist. version number in the download search, downloaded a file with the same name but slightly different size and that was that. Cleared Windows Update Cache again: 1- Ran Services.msc 2- Located and stopped "Windows Update" service. 3- Renamed "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" folder to "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old" 4- Restarted "Windows Update" service again. 5- Restarted the computer and let the computer perform a Windows Update. It downloaded MS Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable KB2538243, I have only one instance of it, and all is fine now..
Thanks for sharing, I suspect that it's the source of my problem when installing SCCM client that also installs vcredist... I'll check this. I also have tons of "Windows Update has crashed", "WMI as crashed", etc. repeatedly...
MS Visual C++ 2008 is needed for .NET 3.5, in your case I would uninstall and reinstall .NET also from "Turn Windows features on or off". Good Luck.
To be honest with, this is the main reason I pretty much stopped posting here, or even using this forum as a legitimate source of information, as I do not want to wade though these type of comments. I have seen these forums change from XP days to now and not at all for the best in the way people treat each other. High or low post count does matter either way you can be ass and dis respective to other and that should not be tolerated. Threats to others or threats to take your toys away should not be tolerated as well, these are just example of things that are toxic to these and all forums. And yes those toys are you own to do with what you want but offering toys and then using those toys to try and hold the forums hostage is just wrong. Certain people here in just this thread really need a time out...and temp ban. From a very long time member. /Edit PS some of the off topic stuff said in this thread actually does have merit and I have seen it and it disgust me, though it was not said in a very good way does not make the off topic issue not true.
With this build I am having an issue when I wake the computer from sleep mode. The computer wakes but the screen does not turn on, this did not happen with previous builds. I noticed NVidia just released new drivers today 358.50, hoping this will fix it.
Someone has problem where some random websites keep loading forever in browser or just not load? Connection is very unstable now, already using Google DNS still not helping, this is getting very annoying. I had read here other people reporting similar issue on Win10, but I'm not 100% sure. Any hint is welcome! Thanks
I had this problem with Chrome and then switched to the latest Waterfox. This resolved all my problems for the slow WWW sites the past couple weeks.
My problem is not related to a browser specific, it happens to any browser (firefox/chrome/edge/opera/and more) in all machine on my local network. Since all machine already are on Win10 I'm not sure what is causing this issue.
I'm seeing the same thing. Nothing has resolved and it's very sporadic. I have a Windows 7 laptop using same infrastructure and it works without issue on same sites that Windows 10 box has problems with as does my phone all using the same wireless connection so it's definitely Windows 10 related.
basically issue cannot be blamed to W 10 simply because there are millions out there without that problem though. It is any kind of homebrew, my 2 cents
