I will probably get my head bit off for this, but from what I read on the blog links above this release appears to have more than a few bugs to be resolved.

And what I had to do is to chose themes from OS itself and with a few wallpapers....This system can be heavy customized using just unmodifiyed options...So,why not??
I see not issues with customization and my machine have enough resources to do..

Yup agree.. Mint is perfect out-of-the-box.. but nice to try improve on perfection..

Yup... what slows windows is all that MUI crap... all we do is write a few scripts and add a few .png's and viola! ...No overhead!

Me too.. BTW Paiva I like your avatar's.. gonna make a theme with those one day LOL

So do I. I'm running Kubuntu, and its flawless. Lots of customization inside KDE, once you get use to it.

    Truth!

I used Kubuntu for a long time...

Gave place to other distros like Chakra and Manjaro. I like to test everything! :)

I have been using Mint from a pen drive, its fast and stable and looks great but I'm not too impressed with the software bundle.

Almost every single program included in the package has an alternative I would prefer. Chrome is my preferred browser, Qbittorrent is the best torrent program and SoftMaker Office for me is far better than Open/Libre Office, and the list goes on:(

Is there a method of installing Mint without all the "bloat"?

    Probably give Mint a miss

    Hi Guys

I have been looking closely at Ubuntu and its derivatives and it would appear that Ubuntu is getting a lot of flack for being poorly built and unstable.

The guys at Zorin for example are looking to go back to Debian as a base as they are becoming more and more disenchanted with Ubuntu. The same grumbles can be seen on the Mint forum relating to their Debian based project. Flaws in Ubuntu will have a knock on effect with all the derivatives including Mint and Zorin.

Trimming down Mint or any other Ubuntu based distro is not recommended as it would appear that Ubuntu is constructed just like Windows, interfere with the "base Package" and the whole deck of cards becomes very unstable, its not a job for amateurs.

After trying a load of different distros its Zorin for me for the moment even though the LTS has just ended everything works flawlessly in a very familiar setting just from a pen drive. I have just got to tidy up my PC before I go ahead and install it.

I might just hang on a little longer to give Mint KDE a try

    @Kim100,

    Ubuntu actually lost market share.

But Linux Mint is another level.

I'll wait for version 17 Final KDE and take a chance :)
