hm.i have my doubts about updating from LMDE6 to 7; perfectly happy with 6, and i see too many unknowns that i have zero experience with.
and to go through all that rigmarole of making backups, uninstalling all the bloat, reinstalling software, is kind of daunting. so i am in no hurry.

The biggest problem I have is support. LMDE updates are dropped very quickly, its a great OS but it seems to still be someones hobby, that's why I think Spiral is a better option but there is no sign of a "Trixie" version. The old version of Spiral will update but installing an old OS and then upgrading to the latest version is not a great idea in my book. I really wish Mint would take the plunge and go full Debian and put Ubuntu on the back burner, perhaps keep a version going for the diehards.

The upgrade to 22.2 is now available via the update manager. The upgrade went OK for me.

long term support.. i think there is no need to worry about that.
we do not install a distro for life.. and we don’t even know if
we will live long enough to see this current one obsolete..
and a new version is a healthy sign of development, imo.
if 7 gets too old, i suspect there will be an 8th version of it.

[it would be more of a risk if it was developed by m$..
to generate new income, they have to declare EOL way
sooner, to cash into a newly marketed ‘new’ version...]

LMDE repos are fairly static and versions are far behind, at least for applications, in my experience. And as LMDE does not have dot-releases, maybe they just do not want to risk having five years-old applications and packages being in use. Two years is already borderline.

Hi, very good info because I also use Linux Mint without issues until now :)

The normal Linux Mint is not as bad, repos are updated more often, and it has intermediate dot releases.

But the Debian-based edition looks more like a proof of concept to me, at this time.

Your absolutely right and that's exactly how LMDE should be labelled "Proof of Concept Edition"

When I downloaded the .iso file, uget reported an error but the file has the correct sha256 hash. If you also get an error don't assume the file is corrupt without checking the hash. Now I get to install and see what has changed since the beta. :)

I downloaded the image via FF browser with no issues, GtkHash came up clean, I put it on a USB Drive and ran it without any issues, looks OK to me. I only use uGet if I have a failure, I don't like it that much.

Also installed and running just as good as the Ubuntu version.
