I wonder why MS keeps pushing for newer Canary builds, while Google sticks to older builds. It's not like MS is any better at testing browsers compared to Google. Edgium is probably less secure than Chrome.
The thing so many people forget is that nobody knows more about Windows than Microsoft does, so when it comes to coding for Windows, since they know everything about it, they can retool the code - even the Chromium codebase - so that it works better on Windows, and actually integrates with aspects of the OS itself which is how IE and native Edge have always worked which is one reason why they're so much faster in casual use than any third-party software that's created to run on Windows. Google, Mozilla, every company that's ever written a program or piece of software designed to run on Windows only has a partial understanding of just how Windows truly works, and those companies are forced to make use of APIs that exist to allow software to work on Windows. With Microsoft, they can write or retool code, like that open source Chromium codebase, to run not just on top of Windows but as part of it and that's what's going on with this Chromium-based Edge too. I suspect that when we finally see a fully completed (or at least as close to as they can make it) "Edgium" that's ready for general release it will outperform the same build of Chromium on the same platform/hardware configuration by a considerable margin. I've tested build 111 vs the latest public Chromium builds (and Ungoogled Chromium too) and "Edgium" is faster in my testing on the order of 10%+ in most situations. It's just fast for me, can't speak for anyone else, but everything I do with this "Edgium" so far has worked, it hasn't crashed yet, has no issues, never lags, never slows down, it's just astonishly fast on my older Folio 9470m i5-3427u based machine running LTSC 2019 fully updated. I'm actually damned impressed by it, to be honest.
Thank you for the tip tj77. It worked for me also in 20H1 b18865 this AM, Edge v75.0.111.0 Can take it for a spin but it wont check for updates (attached), like I care Spoiler
Says on the page for the most part, Dev Channel Updated weekly Our dev builds are the best representation of our improvements in the past week. They have been tested by the Microsoft Edge team, and are generally more stable than Canary. Canary Channel Updated daily Want to see what we were working on yesterday? Canary will be released automatically almost every night to keep you up to date on our progress.
Canary = Alpha (similar to Skip Ahead), Dev Channel is like Fast Ring and Beta Channel is like Slow Ring.
Thanks, I understand better Still not possible to change the language, not worries By cons I still have the popup that Edge is launched in admin mode ....
