its related because Edge creates a file inside "%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\ImplicitAppShortcuts\" and that file is a shortcut that points to "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge SxS\User Data\Profile X\Edge Profile.ico" or "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge SxS\User Data\Default\Edge Profile.ico" and using specifically that icon for taskbar.
I have been following these discussions from the beginning, first post is in MARCH 2019 ! What the heck, has Microsoft not been able to build a reliable browser, based on chrome engine even now ? I read that it is scheduled to launch in January 2020. Just ranting ! No offense to anyone !
I found for the icon in the taskbar (when the browser is open) and for the shortcut too (Windows 10 did not resist me so Edge ) I prefer, but I would have to do the change with each new update, so I would leave with the CAN on the icon/logo...
UPDATE: We published 334.3 today to fix an issue where navigation on some websites was taking an extraordinarily long time for some users. We're also hoping to publish another small revision next week to fix a couple of known crashes.
