Removing office via control panel only is not enough for a long while now, use the official office removal tool and run it till it reports no office install found, do not reboot when it is asked, reboot after it states "no office install found".
I'm kinda new to click-to-run and now I'm wondering how updates will get deployed. MSI version got its updates through Windows Update. Now C2R seems to have its own task: "Office Automatic Updates 2.0" which triggers this: Code: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\OfficeC2RClient.exe /frequentupdate SCHEDULEDTASK displaylevel=False I just ran the task manually (although it's being run on every logon anyway) but my Office didn't update so far. Is there a timer of some sort which prevents instant updates? Will it work later on? Sure you can always update manually by that "Update now" button in every Office app. But I'm curious: Does that automatic update work for anyone here? I read around and found some threads on reddit and MSDN where people had problems with automatic updates and had to change the task parameter from "SCHEDULEDTASK" to "USER" to make it work. But those threads were for previous versions and I kinda hope it's not a bug still present in current versions... If anyone could shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it!
Sorry, it was one scenario I hadn't tested properly. It only downloads fine from the current channel with a Volume PID (by using setup /download config.xml). I've just tested with ProPlus2019Volume on Current xml, and it downloaded 16.0.10827.20138. But then, it refuses to install later when using setup /configure config.xml (which will look for the folder created previously), showing the wrong channel message. You can then leave channel at default when using a Volume PID, and change to Monthly right after install via policy. You can do it via HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\office\16.0\common\officeupdate , create a updatebranch (REG_SZ) with Current. It'll then update to latest version.

Is there any way to configure the tool for a much smaller download? My Office 2016 was ~ 1GB, why is 2019 twice that size?
My apologies for the confusion, but... can someone please enlighten me: what are the precise build numbers and proper channels / channel ids for ProPlus2019Volume? Do they even exist yet, with a final build? I tried converting and installing the ProPlus2019Volume from the retail image and all I get is an old build that says it's a preview version. Channel ID: f2e724c1-748f-4b47-8fb8-8e0d210e9208 (by using ODT and PerpetualVL2019 channel) Product Version / build: 16.0.10730.20102 Name: Office Professional Plus 2019 Preview I must've done something wrong... I am curious about the activation, like did they dump that telephone method as well or it's just that the keys didn't leak somehow (I know I can use KMS to activate but just curious to know)
