Me too Exactly ... I don't get this attitude from Microsoft ... They really thinked that pushing Metro like this would make people that don't like the interface use it anyway OR make the same people look for other ways to reenable start menu ? Worst of all, they didn't realize that it would angry this share of people and therefore lose sales ? Same as comporative market that will not for sure upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 ... I think Ballmer thought he could act like Steve Jobs puhing throat down those "inovations" , forgeting that Windows users aren't a sect that worships the company, like Apple users ...
Classic Shell 3.6.0 Offers full support for Windows 8. It even allows you to get the Vista/7 Start Menu.....Also skips the "Windows 8 Theme UI" (used to be called Metro) faster.
I just tried the 3.6.1 version. It makes Windows 8 totally usable, even up to the point that you think it is a part of Windows! Installation is quick, no hassle and you have all your stuff in the menus right away. It's highly customizable, I have set it up the way it suits me most for what I do every day. I used the start button -=fantômas=- posted, thanks for that. I also used the metro skin so it blends nicely. Can absolutely recommend this, once you tried it there is no going back. Cheers.
it would be funny if MS add the start menu in a service pack or in Windows 9 do you know if on the server version there is also the metro start screen ? beacause it is completly riddiculous on a server !
Metro exists, but Server boots directly to Desktop unless you run the hacks to turn the Server into a Workstation, then it boots to Metro, but Classic Shell works 100% on Server, too.
Classic Shells works great on both Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 yes. I'm loving it . In fact, the only reason why I'm using Windows 8 on my main laptop is because of Classic Shell. I hated Windows 8 before. I can't think of a better program who make life so more easy, running Windows 8.
Hehe, me too mate. Also updating from 3.6 to 3.6.1 worked flawless. Thx to the creators for this fine piece of software!
Microsoft was so, actually to the point of defiance regarding the start menu removal. They actually made changes to block the ability to boot to the desktop. I wonder if they are going to prevent apps like Classic Shell from working in some high critical future update.
thanks a lot it looks and works like it should be from the start . one question .i did not manage to change the all programs text , it is in czech and the shutdown too..thanks again for the effort
Change the Label to your language. Do the same with the "ShutDownBox" item. Well done. BTW: It's not Czech, it's Polish.
