Until you figure out your problem you can use the LAV codecs

Anyway just read the WMC installer readme, there is a link to the instuctions

    at vladtepes:

Please read my post nr: #1948 for downloading a simple PDF file whit settings for Shark007 codecpack.
You NEED to install this package, otherwise Live-TV is NOT working……
I assume that you also need the separate Windows DvD Player to do its thing.
After installing and setting Shark007 some settings I think in the windows register are made to do the trick for both Live-TV and surround audio.

I have a tablet with Windows 8...Non WMC, and when I tested it, I got the drivers not installed/codec error. So, with a NON-WMC Windows 8 machine It does not work.

Uninstalled and re-installed with the same issue. Confirmed this on a retail Windows 8 (NON-WMC) VM I have, as I was going to take the 10 update on it. I got the same error.

So, a NON-WMC Windows 8 machine with at least v7 installed will give a codec error, so testing protected content could not even be done.

I did post this a while ago...

This is one issue (Protected content) that I wish we could get working. This is a big deal in the US, as the BIG advanage to WMC here is using cablecards (Cable DVRs are like $10 for DVR fee and another $5 for rental in a lot of places PER MONTH)

With out this protected content issue fixed, cablecards only 1/2 work but, if you pay extra for ANY premium channels, you cant watch them.

No problem in the name, I knew you were talking about me...and I did post it a while ago but, with 205 pages, I dont care that much to find it ;)

I can let you use one of my tuners to record protected content if you'd be up for it. (This would use a Centon Network turner method.)

youd need at least 20mbs upload speeds if you were going to do that via VPN.

No need to see the full screen video at 60Fps, just make the WMC windows small and and a teamviewer connection over a 2Mbps line would be enough

    Hi all.

Firstly many thanks to those responsible for this - excellent work.

I've just installed it and run through setup and everything appears to have worked fine - it scanned and found all the channels, the guide has populated and I've downloaded the DVD player from Windows Update.

Only issue is, when I try to view a channel, I get a "No TV Signal" error. Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? I've tried a reboot and it obviously had no trouble finding the channels via the tuner in the first place so I'm rather baffled.

you cant watch DRM content over teamviewer, it doesnt have protected path.

Besides, he said he was going to allow someone to use his network tuner.

That would require a VPN for the guest to see the tuner as an available device.

which means a 20 mbps pipe (for a 1080p stream)

Good point, I didn't know that the protection was so deep. Anyway what about VNC w/o any miror driver installed. It's slow, yes, but given it share the raw bitmap it would likely work.

P.S. out of curiosity is there any USB Cable card tuner? Those would be easy to share with an USB over ip redirector and they didn't require a remote login at all

I was just able to view HBO (a copy once protected channel on my CableCard) on my Win7MCE machine over TeamViewer. To my surprise, it was even watchable, lol.

Are any of the devs here willing to look into the PlayReady issue this way?

Hi all, I've been following this thread for weeks. Well done.

My starting setup was a windows 7 home laptop upgraded to win10. I have used the v7 installer and can download the guide and watch tv. I also have the sbs player installed. I also get the "system files modified" message while trying to watch HBO in the states with my hd homerun prime/cable card setup. I also have 2 xb360s for use as extenders. I am willing to test out anything you guys need. Just let me know what to look for/do and I can post results. Please pm me with post numbers so I don't miss any requests if I don't respond within a day.

Btw, I don't know much about debugging but as a sysadmin, I've used systernals to watch processes opening and writing to files as they run in the background. Has any dev tried this to see what files are accessed when starting to watch protected content like HBO?

Great guide here used v7. Able to watch HBO with Prime. But Extender only works for almost 3 minutes then disconnects. I used the RDP wrapper to get the 3 minutes on an extender also tried the hexedit on termsrv.dll with same results as the wrapper.

No that's the only reason why Americans on cablecard would use it.

WHS 2011+ WMC + DVBlink and/or ServerWMC (+ Drivepool or DriveBender for storage pooling) is still a great solution to have a single Server/HTPC that integrates, seamless backups, file and media serving, remote access from anywhere in the world, and so on. A solution that (shame on MS) should have been available since the day one.

How do you know it doesn't work w/o trying?

WHS-2011 is based on Srv 2008r2 (aka is on par with Win 7) after my mod even the official package
WMC update can be installed just clicking on them. At leas anything that doesn't replace one of the four patched files.

    Its a 50/50 bet IMO.

There are still a lot of WHS lovers, and WHS still works perfectly on serving W10 machines, but likely most of the users aren't aware that WMC on it is available now. Hence my request to spread the word.
