Yes quite a lot has been tried. We copied the Playback MediaFoundation FeatureSet from 8.1 to 10 (replacing all that was there in 10) and tried on 10 N as well (Blank Slate). No Go. We've installed the PlayReady for 8.1 on 10, although success (as its required anyway in the setup procedure for Live TV). No Go. We've used Windows 10 MPEG2 Codecs (Windows DVD Player) Setup. No Go. We've used ResetDRM techniques but to no avail. No Go. We've tried using System File Checker after installation of WMC. No Go. We've tried Disabling Various Checks in *.dll files to try and bypass the "System Files Modified" message. No Go. We've tried 3rd Party Codecs (thoe this will NEVER work, as PlayReady presents a "Copy Prohibit" message). No Go. Most of the options had their success and desired outcomes, but still CopyOnce failed to play. Many times with the above methods I actually DID NOT get a "System Files Modified" message but just a Black Screen during Playback that would eventually report "Weak Signal". This would as expected only appear on CopyOnce channels. Playback of said Black recordings would even be playable outside of WMC in WMP. Ultimately, I do not believe it will be possible honestly after all has passed. I'm betting there are checks in the PlayReady system for the OS level. So unless we plan on breaking the PlayReady system here... How long has PlayReady been out? Yep that answers that question. Compound the fact that Windows 10 has PlayReady already intergraded... we have no way of knowing even if the PlayReady 1.3 is functioning properly on 10 to know if we're doing things right.
Well, I used the "net localgroup Administrators "NETWORK SERVICE" /add" command in the admin command prompt , which seemed to successfully run, but the "Local Users and Groups" link still wasn't showing. Ran lusrmgr.msc directly and got the "Local Users and Groups" window, along with a "This snapin may not be used with this edition of Windows 10" error message in it. Lastly, ran the 3 command lines listed in the Workarounds.txt. The first two seemed to run OK, but the third line, which is a repeat of the script below, resulted in a "System error 1378 has occurred. The specified account name is already a member of the group." error. Hoping that just means the first run took and that running the command lines out of sequence didn't screw things up. Thinking positively, if the computer accepted the commands, what type of result should I be looking for? Is there somewhere I can go to confirm that "NETWORK SERVICE" was made a member of the administrator group?
You use the 'net localgroup.....' command for Windows 10 home versions and the Local Users and Groups way for Windows 10 Pro versions. To test that the command has worked schedule a recording for later on, put the computer to sleep and see if it wakes up to do the recording.
First - I wanted to say thanks for the work that went into the WMC port for win10. I've gotten it up and working, DVR is fully functional, guide is great. The only issue I have is that I can't get my WMC remote (or my Logitech Harmony) to control WMC in win10. Anyone else run into this? My IR receiver is the MS ehome receiver. Thanks in advance! Bard
Not sure what's going on there. But just use Eventghost, you ll' never regret the 15 minutes spent to understand how it works
If upgrade to windows 10 1586 will I have to go thru the whole thing again or will WMC still work after upgrade its working great on 10 now
If you do the upgrade starting from the iso WMC will be removed, but the settings will stay. So just click again on the installer and you'll be back on track in 15 seconds.
I upgraded from WU, but MCE has been put on Windows.old. It doesn't work now. I simply reinstall it with the v8 x64 script, or should I first uninstall than install it? And uninstall how, as it is no longer on Windows folder? Edit: I figured it out, thanks.
Okay so I have one more question then... it seems to me that everyone on the forum is just using the Windows 8.1 based WMC install file but I saw that there is an actual Windows 10 based WMC install file named "WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0v2.1.rar" that people chose not to use because it did not get TV guide schedule or something. I can live without the scheduling guide. So will the newer Windows 10 WMC installation file work with the new Windows 10 PlayReady to decode the DRM channels then?
Silicondust hdhomerun users who encounter problems with WMC after upgrading Windows to v1511 (10586), you may have to uninstall and reinstall the hdhomerun driver. WMC needs to be installed first before installing the hdhomerun driver--this was the case with Windows 8 Pro, too.
Since a week a have problems with MKV files with subtitles. For example "The.Fall.S02E01.1080p.BluRay.x264-SHORTBREHD (NLsub)". I tried Shark, LAV, K-Lite CCCP but still the same problem. When i play the file with MPC-HC it showed me directly the subtitles. What do I wrong?
@ManS-H, I had the same pb as you. Solution that worked for me (I have KLite codec pack basic installed) : install Matroska splitter, and in settings : select your lang code (ex fra) at each stream of the prefered language audio and subtitle settings, and check the DirectVobsub box.
In the Shark007 Settings Application, there is an MKV TAB. On that TAB is a selection, [x] disable Media Foundation for MKV Using this selection will take mkv decoding away from the OS and allow LAV filters to do the decoding which will in turn present subtitles properly within Media Center. There are similar checkboxes on the AVI and MP4 TABS as well for the same reason. installing Matroska splitter will break 10bit decoding.
@abbodi (and other people interested) Maybe I have a trace about the cable card related things. I was playing with wsemp for Server 2012 essentials (w/o it WMC doesn't mind to run) and I noticed that it installs three files that aren't included in v8 package and that almost surely are relevant for our purposes. One is msac3enc-ppdlic.xrm-ms the other is msmpeg2enc-ppdlic.xrm-ms an the third is SLC-Component-SKU-OCUR-ppdlic.xrm-ms Especially the third one looks interesting for cable card users given OCUR stands for OpenCable Unidirectional Cable Receivers (aka Cable Cards) now I'm not sure if the cert file alone is enough to change something but surely that's the key of the problem, there is a specific license for Cable Cards management, just like WMC itself or the mpeg Codecs. So I think that with the system, as is the cable card owners doesn't have any hope to get their devices working... So what do you think?
In my search and quest to get WMC working on Windows 10, I read that early versions of Windows 10 (RTM version?) had Windows Media Center included in it but then they removed it for the final release version of Windows 10. If this is true, did that early version of WMC on Windows 10 RTM work to decode cable card DRM channels? and then they removed it? If so, doesn't anyone have an extract copy of that WMC that we can try to install?
Those 3 licenses are found and installed by default in regular edition (not N) the OCUR one have one policy: OCURControlContentAllowed not sure what's for but in ehuihlp.dll, it's related to GetProdActivationStatus function
