I think it is almost impossible to make a WMC setup whiteout any codeckpack. Not only because of unsupported not playable video files but also the lag of sound output support. Please try Shark007 and use suggested setting and change things “if needed” Dot not forget to go through sound output tab and settings in both 32 and 64 Bit program setting page. You can install Shark007 guaranteed without unwanted apps ore whatever if you take a good look at what happens and skip them…………
Just a quick word of thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread. It took several tries, but I finally got this to work on our HTPC. Great job!
I will repeat what all those have said previously, a thank you to all those involved in making WMC possible on Windows 10. I went through the process of porting to Kodi and was surprised how it did not live up to my expectations. Anyway and apologies it's been covered to death already but I used WMC v10 installation on my media PC but my Xbox 360 extender does not work. it goes through the set up fine and as expected but does not seem to be able to connect at the final step and thereafter. is there a definitive guide on Extenders or is it just not possible?
Just curious, When installing the patch the agreement reads 2012, not like the older 2009 from win 7 Is this a newer build of MC then what came with Windows 7? What is newer in this build than the original version from win 7? Was MC originally included in early versions of windows 10? Thanks !
Ok, so as a recap, Windows 10 crashed, had to reformat and start over with installing Windows 7, upgrading to Windows 10. Before the crash, I was running v2, it worked pretty well. Recording was starting on-time, all I had to do was leave my computer on and set my power options so that the computer would never turn off. After installing v8 and doing the same thing to my power options, my recordings do not start. The first time I set a recording, it did start, but only when after I got home from work and I opened up WMC, thus missing most of my recording. This past week, recordings didn't start at all, even after opening WMC. Am I missing a permission? A scheduled task? Is there a later version that would suit me better? EDIT: I think the following quote MAY fix the problem. Thoughts? I went ahead and applied the fix, as I seem to remember doing it before.
Hello, This WMC is the one which was developped for Windows 8.1 pro. There are no particular improvement in WMC since Windows 7, but since Windows 8.1 and 10 are very similar, it was less hard to port WMC from 8.1 to 10 than 7 to 10. WMC version which came with early versions of Windows 10 has bugs, ie you can't download EPG guide from Internet. But it had the same features as WMC for 7 and 8.1.
Just out of curiosity. Did the WMC which came with the early builds of Windows 10 work properly with those builds?
Had the same issue. This is what has to be done. Works great now BTW, why didn't you use the latest Win 10 build to do a clean install, using the key from your Win 7 disk?
You have to upgrade only once. After that you can make clean install (even 32bit->64bit) without any key entered and Windows will activate automatically.
Hello. I used to be in a configuration very close to yours. Please find hereafter process to make it work correctly, with 5.1 bitstreamed output to HDMI. It comes together with Shark007 codecs installation, anyway. I only focused on 5.1 live TV ; to get 5.1 output for different video streams, you probably need to adjust further some other Shark007 settings. Shark007 is mainly needed to get a workaround on audio settings menu not working in WMC in W10. W8.1 microsoft codecs seem only needed for E-AC3 (Dolby+) support on HDMI output
If you want to clean install there isn't any need to install w7/w8 first. W10 TH2 setup media will accept the W7/w8 keys
The older w10 builds like 99xx had WMC working properly just like the w8.1 (9600) builds. The latest ones like 10134/10135 had the setup data/EPG not working. Whatever is better to have a 9600 builds because with that we have WMC working not just on W10, but also on Server 2016, Server 2012r2 and non WMC W8.1 builds (including w8.1 embedded and w8.1 home).
Indeed. No matter if we talk about original or patched WMC, external codecs are still a must have, because the not supported formats (mkv, flv, mp4 ...) and the additional features like the subtitles support.
I see there's been progress on the DRM front. I'll test the v10 64bit tonight and see if DRM cables work. Everything I do is from a fresh installation, I don't ever upgrade. Is DRM working with the Windows DVD Player App, or Shark/etc 3rd Party Codecs? T-S, with the v10 64bit, you mentioned needing to copy over some .dll files that were patched. Will I need to do this?
No I talked about v9 and dism version, which includes two more patched files, one of them ( mcplayerinterop.dll) makes my wmc not working. Such files aren't included on v10
Tried that. Didn't work. I didn't have my Windows 10 key, I believe they're different. I should've taken a picture of it w/ my phone. Not sure if that would've allowed a clean install or if that's just an upgrade key.
