DRM content works fine for a little while but eventually stops working again and I must uninstall and reinstall the process all over again. So something is corrupting the install. I've tested on a laptop and desktop. The desktop lasts a bit longer, but eventually DRM content stops working again.
All of my Win 10 systems with WMC decided to stop displaying DRM after update KB3122947. Going through the uninstall/reinstall process of WMC got everything going again. So far this has been the only time I've had a issue with DRM channels.
Somthing off topic but have anyone tried to watch 4k live TV channels with media center? Sky will soon send live tv sports with this format and i will watch it too.
Yes, at least for me, with v10 I can record a DRM Channel, it shows as copy protected and plays. Unfortunately like James62370 above, it only works for a day or two and then it goes back to getting the system files modified error. It seems to happen after I haven't been using WMC for a time. Luckily I only have two premium HD channels that have DRM.
It's progress but, if his stops working after a day or 2, then clearly it's an issue some where. It seems we are getting closer and this is a VERY GOOD THING. Now we just need to figure out why it breaks so, no one else has this issue. James62370, when it stops working, is there anything in the event log (WMC or DRM based issues, normally Application log) ? Is there something else that is causing this issue ? When you uninstall and reinstall WMC, does the DRM'ed shows that you recorded before still play back (showing DRM is in tact and not broken, another issue is causing this). Now, both of you, what codec packs do you have installed ? What type of video card ? Are the drivers for the video card at the newest or past ones ? This is 2 examples and thanks, do we have any more examples proofing this 100% works ?
I didn't have any issues with DRM channels til the windows update installed yesterday on each of my systems and all of them are running v10. My main HTPC is a AMD A10-7850K using the apu graphics with the new Crimson drivers, desktop uses GTX 970's with drivers updated through Experience when they are released, and other HTPC uses Intel Celeron G1830 HD graphics with newest drivers from Intel. I've only tested one DRM channel I recorded before reinstalling, Ash vs the Evil Dead, but it played without issues after reinstalling. The only codecs I would have on each system is what ever comes with Windows DVD player.
I agree that we are getting closer to a workable solution and appreciate the efforts from everyone on this forum. Unfortunately, I have not reinstalled media center since it stopped working. Next time I get a chance I will check the event application logs to see if there is any additional information. I'm testing on a Dell XPS M1330 Laptop and a home built 4th Generation i7 desktop with a Asus GTX 980 Graphics Card. I had the shark codec setup on my laptop, but I don't think it was required. On my desktop, I did not install any additional codecs. Same results, after a few days, the drm channels just stop working. I'm usually up to date with the latest drivers for all my systems. I have not recorded anything so not sure if any pre-recorded drm shows work after a reinstall. I will keep these things in mind for future testing. I believe I remember reading someone saying that Microsoft will continue to support Media Center in Windows 10, has this been confirmed or only speculation?
That is good, so your pretty solid....BTW, I gota see that movie...Ash vs. the Evil Dead... The real test would be, CLEAN install, No codecs, no 3rd party programs or apps (just after a reset), install it and see if you can get live TV working with out 3rd party codecs or extras. If you pass that, then try a DRM channel and record/playback. Then run for a week or so to make sure it's stable. If you can record a DRMed show when you next install it, and LEAVE it after you watch it (make sure it says "Copy Protected" at the bottom). When DRM shows break again, uninstall WMC (don't delete the show), reboot and re-install. When you do, try that Protected show. **IF** it plays back, that means DRM's protected path is still there (DRM is a WMP thing not a WMC thing). if not, maybe a DRM reset is needed before you try it again. Your DRM store could be broken, if it happens again, I would remove WMC, do a search for a WMP drm reset (requires you to delete a bunch of files and run a script), and then try to re-install again, I bet this addresses this issue. I really would like to know what is happening with your PC here, as this could be the key on DRM shows... Where did you see Microsoft will support WMC on Windows 10 ? Would love to read that....As I don't think Microsoft would even support this version after files are modified so it works... Only way they would decide to support it, is if they released it in the store....
I previously reported hanging issues with Media Center interface. Yesterday I uninstalled v8 and installed v10. No problem encountered until now. What I understand is that Media Center WPF user interface suddently not respond to user input. I could see a strange behaviour: after I watched a video I pressed stop button, and Media Center was displaying summary screen with e.g. delete button. At this point interface hanged for half a second during fade-in transition animation. I browsed videos collection to watch another one and after some seconds, it slowed down, frame by frame, and finally blocked forever. Media Center did not respond anymore and did not release mouse cursor after I pressed Alt+Tab keystroke. The only way to shutdown Media Center was to open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc, selecting WMC application using down key and pressing Delete. Using Process Explorer I will try to see if there is a memory overflow. Could it be a MPEG-2 decoder crash? I sometime see black thumbnail in place of regular video thumbnails.
Hi. First off, thank you for amazing job.. Works like a charm... My question is if Theres any that have had succes with mce reset toolbox or other menu themer in the x64 version. Got it to work on the 32 bit version.
Hi everyone here, first I want to thanks all involved in this project of porting media center to Windows 10. I want to share my experience on installing and using media center. First, I installed WMC on a clean install of Windows 10. While it is not mandatory, I strongly recommend using the Pro version over the Home version because of the need to add NETWORK SERVICES to administrators group. I've tried the recommended tip using the command line to insert it into the Home version without any success. I have to note here that my knowledge of using command line is very limited. It was easier for me to navigate to the group policy on the Pro version and add it from there. After adding that, all recordings occurred even when the HTPC was in sleep mode. May be adding NETWORK SERVICES can be done automatically while installing WMC in a future release. I also appreciate the option to have many languages available. I am very happy with the ability to move to Windows 10 and keeping WMC. Again, thanks for the good work! Claude
@Graznok, Do you still use a HDMI screen with Windows 8.1 mpeg2 codec ? or is it the Windows 10 one ?
Does it occur using LAV codecs ? If no, maybe it's due to W8 one. Just a newbie thought : no way to find a workaround patching W10 codec ? In my case since Windows 10 pro TH2 (DVI output, analogic sound output) I only observe a black screen during 1 s when I swith WMC from fullscreen to window mode. No hanging issue (I use W10 codec for TV decoding, not LAV).
Just about an hour ago all WMC Windows 10 boxes started giving the "System modified files" DRM channel message. 2 of the systems are clean installs and the other is a upgrade install.
Check your various event viewer sections. Really would be hit or miss at this point which one. But see what occurred. I haven't had a chance to do anything related to DRM testing. I've been hanging lights on the house. I've been happily using a HDMI Stick PC for my Standalone WMC Embedded with a Network Storage for DVR.
I'm using tablet mode with my 65" flat screen but when I close MCE I'm taken to the desktop instead of the start screen. Anyone know how I can get to the start screen instead of the desktop after closing Media Center? I'm using v7 on Windows Version 1511 build 10586.17. Got to say what a cool experience it is with MCE on windows 10 with tablet mode. I'm also using a remote that has a close button on it that will close any open app which allows me to open another app.
