Necessary or not, I run the drivers after a WMC reset. Next is the DCA...If it's not in Extras you have to download manually. Then WMC Setup TV which includes the Guide, Activation, Tuners and PlayReady. Occasionally I have even had to download PlayReady manually. You asked for a WMC Virgin, post #2788, time to flip up that skirt.
Wow, Crash, good advice and you were right I needed to reinstall Ceton drivers. Still though I am getting error with components modified error. I hope there is a stable cure to using MC in Win 10 otherwise I will revert to win 7. By the way, how does one MANUALLY download DCA and playready? I always thought WMC did that within itself. Again, thanks
Manual download of PlayReady and or Digital Cable Advisor (DCA) Google it and download direct from Microsoft. Normally they are within WMC and run automatically during the setup. But sometimes they are missing or invisible or need a little "jump start". Depends on how bad its broken.
Crash...Go figure I did everything you stated all DRM works no errors. How long will it last though ? When I rebuild my win 10 image from scratch, is it best to save ceton drivers and WMC for last or it doesn't matter since I can always reinstall? I like reimaging so no stray or orphan files are left behind. I suppose the WMC win 10 program will evolve with time I guess. Lastly, is it possible that one day Microsoft will not issue epg data or playready components thereby making wmc unusable? Again, THANKS!
I followed Crash2009's instructions and was able to get WMC working with Windows 10 home and the program guide. The additional hints to move the "network service" to the administrator group enabled me to get the system to wake up from sleep mode and do recordings. Thanks to Crash2009 and the others at mydigitallife who did the work to get this to go.
All worked until I rebooted now the same stations I clearly saw are replaced with "service not available" errors! Thanks again
Thanks fyfchu, but I don't deserve the credit. I only been here 10 days. The real credit goes to all the guys that have been working on this project since May 2015 whom I must give Thanks to. Start reading on page 1 and you will see what I mean. It really is a great collective worldwide effort to save WMC. Thanks Again!
Everytime I uninstall win MC for win 10 and then reinstall, channels (both regular and premium) work for a moment then I get the attached error.
Did a Windows 10 Update delete my Windows Media Center? I installed Media Center on my Windows 10 computer. This computer is a dedicated DVR with 4 tuners and is networked to allow me to watch all over-the-air recordings on any computer in my home. Everything is OTA - I do not have cable. I only switched to Windows 10 because Media Center was available to be installed on my on my DVR computer. Previously, I was running Windows 8.1 Anyway, after weeks of successfully running Media Center, about 4 days ago, I got the pop-up window that says WINDOWS UPDATES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED - REBOOT TO FINISH THE PROCESS (or whatever the precise message is). I was also given the option of postponing the reboot. I was actually enjoying some recorded TV shows so did not immediately reboot. Anyway, the next day when I turned my DVR computer on, the Windows Media Center Icons had disappeared from the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and from the desktop. I just assumed the ICON shortcut got messed up so I went looking on my hard drive (EHOME directory) to find the missing short-cut. It appears not only were the ICONS missing but also the Media Center program, i.e. deleted from my computer. I have another desktop computer in my home that has Media Center installed, and it continues to work fine and I would assume I have done all the updates from Microsoft. I had backed up Windows 8.1 on my computer that supports my DVR functions so I switched back to Windows 8.1. When you are only using a computer as a home DVR, the backup is only about 15gb and I use an SSD for the programs and regular hard drives to store my recorded TV shows. Except for the annoying messages encouraging me to install my free Windows 10 update - I think I will just stick with Windows 8.1 But back to my question - Has Microsoft come up with an update to remove what I assume they believe is pilfered Microsoft software, i.e. Media Center from Windows 10 computers? Or something more sinister going on with my DVR computer? Any thoughts???
LOL... NO.... Today is the 16th and I said around 4 days ago.. so around the 12th, but of December, not November. WHY ???
happened to me yesterday, same thing. A major update, and bingo, WMC gone. I guess I just re-install.
Was your windows 10 install an upgrade or a fresh install? Mine was fresh, I have Windows MC but I have issues with functionality as many channels become unavailable while earlier they were all available.
Seems its the upgrade to version 1511, OS build 10586.29 Now I read back somewhere this upgrade may do things to our version 10 of WMC. Before I reinstall, (yes I am being lazy not reading all the thread), is version 10 ok on the new build. On a side note, its going to be a bugger if this happens regularly. I have no problems if it happens say every 6 to 12 months, and its just a re-install.
1) I just ran bcdedit /set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS 2) Connected to Win10 using TeamViewer 3) Opened WMC and navigated to a non DRM channel (plays fine) 4) Tried to play a DRM channel (refused to play) with a different error than before. Copying Prohibited Error is a much less extreme error than System Files Modified. Copying Prohibited Error does not require WMC to be UN and RE installed (no blowout this time) One more little bit of information..... To clear the Copying Prohibited Error, DONT PANIC, just close and re open WMC and the Copying Prohibited error will be gone. WMC restart fixes the error.
The reboot changes things a little. It appears that disable integrity checks breaks Drm channels. They don't even work on the host anymore. Anything else you want to try while integrity check is disabled?
