Yes. All you have to do is to stop the WMC services Copy in a safe place the eHome folder in \program data and export the following registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center If you need to restore just click on the exported registry file, copy back the eHome folder and you're done.
Yes, it seems to work, I was able to schedule a recording and see it wake the computer from sleep and record to completion. That said now I'm battling an unrelated issue where if I uninstall and then reinstall the "Windows Media Player" Windows component, now WMC won't start anymore with the message "Won't start due to a software restriction policy" (WTF?). Guess I'll have to re-run the installer… Mmm... I wonder if it would work if the installer didn't create these tasks at all. If they're created by WMC after the installer is done, it might work because they would inherit the ACLs from the parent "Media Center" folder (which is set to allow Network Service). Maybe that's the proper fix.
Thanks for your investigation. Now what you should check is that is enough to fix also the initial setup phase. As we know, w/o the admin rights, the scheduled recording isn't the only affected thing, also the initial setup is not able to collect the Live TV setup data needed for the proper listing download. So, if you mind, try to launch the wmc recovery task to reset your config, and redo the initial setup. If it works we can consider the problem solved.
I'm afraid I can't help you there, as I never had this problem, the v11 vanilla package just worked without having to start WMC in admin mode and the guide works perfectly. That said, I am in France, not in the US, so maybe there's a difference in the way it downloads the guide. That's probably why I didn't have to edit my hosts file either.
I'm in Italy not US, and usually I had to launch the mcupdate in admin mode to get the listing working. Any how I never tried to get the listing working w/o changing the permissions on v11, given I was used to change them before the initial setup. So is definitely possible that on v11 the problem is already fixed and I didn't notice it.
Anyone tried setting this up today? I decided to give this a try on my main PC ( thanks for this!!! ) but I'm stuck at downloading new TV setup data.
Thank you so much! I just wanted to take a moment to thank those who took their time and energy to figure this out. If there are donations being taken, please share the preferred method. I'm so very happy to be able to try Windows 10, despite many unwanted changes, and simply wouldn't even consider the move without Media Center, as its the only way I watch or record TV and has been for years. The one stop- Media Center installation system worked and I completed the change from 7 to 10 including the addition of Media Center in about 2 hours. Not bad at all (and I have my old Win 7 system backed up on a spare SSD to boot!) Thank you, thank you, thanks and wow, much appreciation to the terrific individuals who not only set this up, but also shared it and even packaged it for easy use by those of us who're less savvy. You're my heroes of the new year!
Probably not meant to be So I was able to get through the setup but now I can't watch live tv. I tried restarting my PC just in case as well but I keep getting the error.. "Service is unavailable..." 1) HDhomerun View works just fine - both the desktop and Windows 10 apps work 2) I went through the Hdhomerun setup again to be sure WMC was selected and rescanned the channels. No luck Anyone know what may be the issue?
Service Unavailable is normally a CableCard issue, Boot the tuner and run TV Setup in WMC if necessary. Also, In the WMC folder (the folder you installed WMC from) read Readme.txt and Workaround.txt other solutions are in there.
Ok. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling again. The only difference is that I added the ips to the host file but not sure if that's the reason that is fixed. But facing a few other things now... 1) I thought DRM shows were now working? I get a display driver error for HBO / Showtime. 2) Looks like I can't watch any live TV unless I maximize WMC. Otherwise, I get a display driver error regardless of channel 3) When maximized, I'm unable to use the mouse - not a big deal but I know I could still use the mouse on Windows 8
Yeah, it's the cable - I'm using displayport for my monitor. I wonder if that's the reason why 2-3 are issues as well. In the process of trying to figure this out, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now, I'm stuck at TV setup again. What are the chances that there is some issue on Microsoft's end? Just seems odd that it would be an issue again when I'm following the same steps as before
After weeks of experimentation with using MC on Windows 10 , I have discovered the following. When I do a backup image of a working setup with MC eventually you will get Service errors, no signal or system files modified error. If I reinstall drivers and rerun setup of MC I will get those dreaded errors However.....IF I have first made a backup image of Win 10 with all my programs (WITHOUT MC) Then add MC to the install all is fine, No errors at all. Again, these are my findings as I can only speak for myself.
T-S, Graznok, Here is what is going on during our Internet/NoInternet experiment. WiFI is disconnected. 1 No Internet 2 WMC started, Guide opened to last channel 3 Navigate to next channel 4 Play DRM Channel=Viewing or Listening Conflict 5 Internet Reconnected, tunnel to array102 6 array102-prod.do.dsp.mp.microsoft.com /join/ =DRM Channel starts 7 Internet disconnected again=Tunnel to I can reproduce this over and over by connecting and disconnecting the Ethernet Cable. Transformer Headers TextView SyntaxView are all decrypted (readable) Viewing or Listening Conflict can be reproduced with Internet/NoInternet on Non DRM Channels also. No Internet=No TV I saved the capture as Capture006ViewingConflict
Thanks, i might try to automize the backup/restore process in a small tool over the weekend(i'm a Delphi developer), seems easy enough.
