Question for the experts: Will using a display port to hdmi adapter trick media center into displaying content? Secondly, how does one overcome maximum resolution errors when feeding a 4k tv? Thanks!
The problem is WMC was created before Display port, so getting Display port to HDMI adapter will break HDCP (display port with HDCP is not supported). It could work fine but, if your watching protected content, it would not work. Your best bet is to use a HDMI out, if you have DVI-D on your card, if it is a 24+5 port, get a 25+5 DVI to HDMI adapter, this will keep HDCP and give HD audio with no problems. I have used this will no problems with HDCP. I also have a 4K TV and run my WMC computer at 2160p. There is a registry setting I use when I start WMC to stop the "The resolution is too high for Media Center" error but, it only works when I start WMC for the first time when booting the machine. So when I use my AVR to switch between sources, it needs to re-sync, this causes the error to show back up. It's a real PIA. I also wish there was a way to remove this "check" from WMC for good.... anyone ? As for the registry setting, I use this, I use a VB script to kick it off before launching WMC... Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Display Settings] "DisableHighCheck"="3840x2160" I guess I have not looked at changing permissions to that key, I guess if you remove all system accounts from the permissions, it might not be able to change it back and resolve this issue...but, it could cause other issues... Thoughts ?
Many thanks for the work done on media center / win 10. Decided it was time to try the upgrade from Win7 and see if this would work, followed the instructions and everything is working well. I have an hdhomerun prime and the silicondust dvr project isn't there yet. Only issue that I have to sort out is a problem with the Rovi guide for our cable provider, about 10 or so channel listings are incorrect, but only 4 of them affect channels I view. I worked around this using GuideTool to link the channel to a different listing on another provider that is correct. With Win10, GuideTool has an error finding the localhost file, I should be able to figure it out.
DavidinCT I don't know if this will be of any help, I only use 1080p... http: / /w ww.avsforum.com/forum/26-home-theater-computers/1387832-htpc-tweaks-fixes.html#post22540175 I have found only the following is necessary Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration\SIMULATED_8086_0412_00000000_00020000_1010100^9DC0F72234047B2D0046209C40C68EB2\00] "ColorBasis"=dword:00000002 "PixelFormat"=dword:00000015 "Position.cx"=dword:00000000 "Position.cy"=dword:00000000 "PrimSurfSize.cx"=dword:00000780 "PrimSurfSize.cy"=dword:00000438 "Stride"=dword:00001e00
Decided to get some Art for my Movies today. Always had pretty good luck with YAMM. Tried several versions before I found one that mostly works. w8_13_10_26_0827 seems to be the best so far. Normally with Win7 I use a little bat named MoveMovies to scan the RecordedTV folder then automatically cut and paste (movies only) into the Movie Folder. Then setup WMC's libraries to exclude RecordedTV and include Movie folder. I haven't exactly figured out how I arrived at this point, but Movie Posters are appearing in WMC's Movie section, however Movies are still appearing in the RecordedTV section. Ideally I want to end up with Movies and Recorded TV completely separated. Presently the Movie folder is in C:\Movies. Would I gain anything by setting up Libraries and YAMM to watch a new folder named C:\Users\Public\Movies ?
Switches don't make good AVR's and (most of the time) AVR's don't make good switches. 4X4 Matrix Switcher solved all those problems for me, plus sends anything anywhere. My AVR is cabled to be a destination rather than a source. (yes, the AVR is cabled as if it were a monitor)
Thanks for the reply but, that issue is WINDOWS changing the resolution of PC. I don't have that issue, Windows Media Center runs but, spits up a message when it's first run or switched to after up of "Your resolution is too high for WMC, please correct this issue" Clicking on it just dismisses the message but, it always comes back up... Easy, go into Yamm settings and there is a "watched folder" section, just make sure it Only watches your Movies folder.. If this is still an issue, bring this up over at TGB and PM me, I'll help you out, I have been using YAMM for many years now and know it's ins and outs... AVR's are a mess when it comes to it some times but, I have a higher end one but, my setup is screwy anyway. My AVR only supports 2160p @ 30hz.... (have you ever tried to run WMC at 30hz ? OMG)...so I run 2 HDMI's out, One directly into my 4K TV @ 2160p 60hz, then run a 2nd HDMI to my Denon AVR to give me HD audio.... So I have a double wammy on this issue...ugh..
Change C: drive to %Systemroot% Or %Programdata% This will find the Windows or Programdata folders where ever it's installed... You can drop me in your beta, I'll beat it up a bit for ya
GuideTool 1.2.5 runs fine in the U.S.A. As I recall, a couple weeks ago it would not install. Tonight it went in fine. Maybe my recent install of (.NET 2.0, 3.0, 3.5) helped out, or it might be a result of v11 1) close WMC 2) open GuideTool 3) connecting to LocalHost click OK 4) edit channels 5) close GuideTool 6) open WMC (channels are edited) I think I might send them another 5 bucks so I can backup and restore.
Thanks for stopping me from experimenting. SeansWmcBackup was designed to restore after fresh OS or WMC reset. Original post edited to reflect that....
I will have to try uninstall/reinstall of guidetool. I did not reinstall guidetool after the Win10 upgrade, and it errors out on start with WMC open. I will also try having WMC closed before opening. Thanks for the info.
There is a variable that I never thought about. You had a fully dressed Win7 before the Win10 upgrade. I started with naked Win7....with activation....nothing else...not even updates...
I don't think that matters, If you just had a Windows 7 with no updates, or you spent 3 hours updating when it comes to Windows 10 upgrade... I just kind of blows all that away anyway. New OS, new updates, none of them apply to 10 anyway.
I think the OP expected (a normal upgrade).....Whatever was installed in Win7, would continue to work in Win10. As we both know, that is not the case.
