Sorry for the offtopic here abody, but any chance we can get a Windows Sidebar installer made from the last beta version of Windows 8 to have it (same as the media center but it does not need to be patched)
Sadly, i don't have that edition to extract it from but the dism emulation trick should be enough in that case (.mum files + registry) doesn't win7 sidebar do the job?
My thanks to the developers of this WMC installation. I wasn't prepared to upgrade to Windows 10 without being able to run WMC. I was able to use the guidance in the workarounds file to get the live tv and guide working correctly. However I do have a couple of problems with video playback Video Library doesn't list mkv files This was working with WMC on Windows 7. I've done a lot of research on this and applied the suggested registry updates. I can right-click an mkv file and select "Open with Windows Media Center" and WMC will play the files just fine so it's not a codec issue. Nobody else mentions an issue listing mkv files in the video library in this thread. Cannot play video on memory stick When I ask WMC to play an avi file in the video library, I'm told "You need to import these videos from the portable device before playing them". Never had a problem with this before. Also, if I right-click on the file in Explorer and select "Open with WMC" it plays just fine. Any suggestions on either of these problems please? Thanks.
Windows cannot open this program I was able to run the patched WMC for a couple of days, but then I had to reboot my machine, and since that time, I'm getting the below error. I am not on a domain, and I am using an administrator account to launch the program. Has anyone seen this error? Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information, contact your system administrator.
I have the same problem on a machine with MCE I don't care about MCE on, on my MCE machine I prevented updates as I had a hunch this would happen.... Looks like MS have screwed it up with an update -- I removed v8 which was restricted and installed v11 and its all peachy again!

Thanks, I replaced the 3 files mentioned in your post with the files from the archive. I first had to take ownership of the files and edit permissions to allow me to change the files. I was able to launch WMC again, but now I have a new problem. WMC was not able to detect my networked tuner.
I installed yesterday and everything was working just fine.. today I open WMC and the live TV playback is extremely choppy. Anyone else experiencing this?
I have just the LAV filters installed and I can watch the MKVs (and FLVs) w/o any tweaking. I opened once an MKV from the windows explorer menu "open with"--> Media Center, not sure that operation had a part on it.
Doing a troubleshoot I see that my frame rate is only hitting 29 even on HD channels.. why would this be?
29/59 bug, NIC auto negotiation, NIC duplex mismatch, tuner and HTPC not on same switch. The graphics system can cause shaking also. The most common is network.
I see what you are saying now, you don't have to do anything to win10 to play MKV. Just throw the files in the video folder and point libraries to the files. No reg hacks, no splitters, nothing.
