Maybe your laptop just got the November update to 1511? I think every major update is going to uninstall WMC. I have had no problems this update cycle on any of my systems with v11.
I've had the Fall update awhile ago... Only lost mediacenter on my laptops. Desktop remained intact. Either way, easy fix for both laptops, just had to reinstall v11. Data was intact. Which is why I asked whether your update was on a desktop system or a laptop.
Thanks for the replies. As I suspected it turned out not to be a codec problem. I have all my video files on a memory stick which is my J:\ drive. For some reason, if I add no folders to my video library "J:" still appears when I click "Video Library". This entry isn't offered to be removed. When I click on it I only see avi files. If I go through the process of adding the J drive as a folder I also see "Local Disk (J". When I click on this I see both mkv and avi files! I'll just ignore the J:\ folder. Incidentally, I uninstalled all codec packs and WMC happily plays mkv files.
Is a laptop It is a native 1511 install, a "ghetto LTSB" (a decrapified PRO) Anyway I've seen the WMC removed on server 2012 R2 (and also unpatched by Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /..) , but was the V10. Never had problems with V11 so far.
Looks like WMCv11 on Windows 10 Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.63) was not removed by Security Update (KB3124263) The update was installed automatically with no effort on my part, other than having to log in this morning. If it makes a difference to anybody, the above is installed on an old I3 Laptop, with 4gb Ram.
Has anyone successfully tested this on Server 2012 R2 and/or essentials? I currently have a dedicted windows 7 box to hold me CETON cablecard (PCI). Can't run a VM of win7 (as PCi card won't work). This would be the perfect solution if 1. Works under Server 2012 2. Will see the hardware Then I can run WMC2PLEX etc for KODI/PLEX live tv
Well, that didn't take long. Updated the living room machine, which was working fine, with 32bit v10 and got everything up & running. Had an issue with not being able to get Digital Cable Advisor to show up from the Extras Gallery to the Extras Library. Downloaded straight from Microsoft and got it to work. Problem is, even after running the cable advisor, all of the TV Signal settings, and re-running the HDHomerun Config & Setup, whenever I try to watch a TV channel, I get "Service is unavailable. There is currently no tv signal detected for this channel. The channel may be temp off the air." message. Will also get a "Tuner not available" message. All three tuners are recognized during setup and the tv works fine with HDHomerun View. Any ideas? UPDATE: Disregard... One thing I didn't try was uninstalling HDHomerun software, then re-installing. Works fine again!! Only problem is I'm still getting a "System Files Modified" error whenever I try to watch any of the HBO channels. Bummer....
I believe it was V7. (WindowsMediaCenter_6.3.9600.16384_x86) Running on an AMD X64 CPU, with 32bit Win 10. It wouldn't play HBO either. Strange thing is, my office computer would play HBO, with nothing different done than on the others. I did just try to re-run the DRM component upgrade through drmlicense(dot)one(dot)microsoft and now I get a "Copying prohibited" error. Hmmm..... Now I'm thinking it's just trying to F with me.
If you click the link in the previous post.....apparently there are only two choices for 32bit.....v3 or v10 Copying prohibited means go to Microsoft and download and install Playready manually. Get Digital Cable Advisor also at the same place if you didn't run it all ready. (two good tools to have in your kit)
Only see one 32-bit version (WindowsMediaCenter_6.3.9600.16384_x86_v10.7z), which is what I installed. Tried running Playready earlier, but it said I was running the newest version already. Might try it again. Do have the Digital Cable Advisor that I downloaded from Microsoft.
click the spoiler, the other 32 bit will show itself same thing for 64 bit spoiler shows all versions Digital Cable Advisor is up in WMC's Extras. If its not there run it manually
Now I see them. Duh... Not positive about which previous version I was running. The extracted install folder, which I still have saved, doesn't have the "V.xx" on the end, just WindowsMediaCenter_6.3.9600.16384_x86. All but the TestRights file list modified dates of 9/10/15. Looks like the files in V3 are 9/11/15. I did have to download and run Digital Cable Advisor separately when it wouldn't show in Extras during the initial setup. Just to be sure, I just rebooted the computer and now I'm getting the "Files have been modified" error again when I try HBO. Everything else is still working fine. Guess it's time to quit for the night and make a STRONG drink. (Off work tomorrow)
I have only installed three versions, but I have done those three many times. When I ran into problems and things just were not working correctly, what I did was..... run the uninstall from the new version run the uninstall from the old version then TestRights and all the rest from the new version also do a few boots in between I don't know about 9/11/15. I just got here 12/06/15
Old? So what! Tried all alternatives out there. Just with the Avermedia 'Volar Hybrid Q' (simple tuner) alone it works fast and smooth like a dream. Even better then their own apps. Where other alternatives have issues WMC just works and issues don't exist. IMO the new should mimmick what you refer to as old.
I mist the words in this post. I wonder, why wladw is talking like that in this threat. If you don’t like MWC just eat your bananas and go do some monkey stuff oke? You don't like WMC no more, but WE ALL DO capice?
