There was a suggestion, way back in this thread, that told us to shorten the extract to folder. I am not 100% sure if this was for convenience (during the pathing) or reliability during the extraction. I am leaning toward the reliability side so I have been creating the extraction folder in Win10, then navigate within the extractor to the previously created folder. WMC_v11 for example which is created in the root rather than the user account. 41 characters in the default extraction folder, is that too much for Win10 to handle properly?
In theory any problem about the path should be already fixed. But often the real world acts differently than theory Anyway given now you can see the folder named WMC64 in the root of the zip, should be pretty natural even for newbies (and lazy experts) to drag it in C:\ Killing at the root any possible path related problem.
Hey guys, I went to run WMC this morning and this popped up: "Windows cannot open this program because it has been prevented by a software restriction policy. For more information, contact your system administrator." I'm running Windows 10 Pro x64 1511 10586.63 Any ideas to fix this? Thank you!
This is the behavior of the unpatched SW. Maybe WU or whatever managed to replace your patched files with unpatched ones. The quickest way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall.
Quick question, does uninstall and reinstalling remove all your channels, recordings, and other settings with v11?
I've tried that, it only works for a day or so. It's almost like there is an update on my machine that is looking out for WMC and then gets rid of it.
I have no idea what is causing the problem you are having. I am using exactly the same version of Windows, and I assume you are running the latest WMC v11. What are you running for 3rd party Apps?
Yes I am running v11, no third-party apps installed. I'm going to try the tip in #3213 and see what develops. Thanks guys
Here's some technical info of software restriction policies. https : // technet.microsoft.com/en-au/library/hh994620.aspx
That ha little to do with normal administrative restriction policies, although the basics are the same. The restriction here comes from the SKU (hence from the pair Serial/Windows edition) and prevents the use of WMC on any version different from the WMC editions and the Embedded editions paired with the correct SKU. So it's a no go on any Win Starter, Home Basic, Enterprise, Server on any Win 8.x w/o the official WMC package, any on any post build 10135 Win 10. Hence the needs for patched files, hence the 10 years long wait for the current result. Win 10 is just a detail. But the total lack of WMC availability helped to catalyze the efforts and to meet the right people on the same place. Just read the thread from the first page to understand the evolution of the current result.
New to this thread, but I have been a dedicated MCE user since 2005. I may have missed this, but will linksys and ceton extenders work with the Windows 10 MCE install? Also, has anyone given any thought on how to keep guide listings going once Windows 8 stops being supported?
Win 8.1 will have mainstream support until 2018, and extended support until 2023, so... It really depends on the standard are you using and your living place. Here in europe the problem is almost inexistent. WMC is able to get the EIT EPG, which are aired by the TV providers by itself (although only during it's active and tuned), DVBlink can use and refresh them in background aside other sources like XMLTV and the MS listings. EPG Collector can collect and inject the EIT data either in WMC itself or as helper for DVBlink, it can also get the data from one or more XML, merge them with the EIT data, and inject them back on WMC or dvblink. MC2XML can grab the MS listings ready to be used by Mediaportal, Kodi, WMC trough EPG Collector and so on (afaik it doesn't work anymore in the US). XMLTV can grab the data directly from from a website meant to be human readable, and extrapolate the data in a standard XML (the support varies depending the nation and the volunteers who keeps it updated, following the change to the websites used to get the data. Those are just the ones I've tested and/or used personally, but I'm sure the options (and their combinations) are way more than the ones I mentioned.
Hallo, help me please with the installation, constantly appearing multiple errors, I tried everything I could, it has not brought results. How can it be denied access if I am an administrator?
