Tried on Windows 7 x64... No go for me, after the mod, WMC would just crash. Tried just to do the basic RDP patch, with out your update with the same result....might be my machine...Patching for me (replacing the files and it WORKING) has been spotty for me... wish there was a more fool proof way to do it.. Edit: Going to try a few more things tonight if I get the window...
I see the guide, and the guide shows the channels. But I want to be able to select certain TV shows to auto record. I am not able to do this since the guide doesn't download the TV schedule as it did in Windows XP/7/and 8 I keep getting the error that it can't do this because of previous download errors.
Just a word to say thanks to whomever for all the good work - a previous attempt at installing WMC didn't work but the version in WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12.7z seems so far to work fine. For all the WMC naysayers, I haven't found any other liveTV app that is simple to install, works and/or allows a windowed (non-full screen) TV display - except for DigiTV (RIP) but that's not HD. The only slight installation issue I had was that I had no idea how to run WMC after installing. There was no new icon, just Windows DVD Player under Recently Added. I installed it on another Win10 box and this time the WMC icon appeared as New under Windows Accessories. So on the previous PC, I ran the uninstall script, rebooted, installed again and this time the icon appeared. The smoking gun might be that I noticed Windows said it was "updating" during the reboot. Just in case that helps anyone.
Thanks I will give this a go. Regarding MKV as the codec is built-in to Win10 I would of course expect it to work in WMC in Win10, my request was to take the Microsoft Win10 Media Foundation codecs and 'port' them to Win7 and/or 8.
Now, a 7 or 8.1 driver, codec etc to 10, I am sure that is possable but, going the other way, not sure if that can be done...This type of thing came up about 25-40 pages back. Dont hold your breath...
Hello, can someone perhaps assist me? So I installed this initially and it was working for me just fine, but last night I upgraded my motherboard, CPU, and RAM and today when I went into Windows, it looks as if Media Center had been completely uninstalled. Whether the 2 are related or not I don't know, just giving the backstory. So I redownloaded the package and just to make sure I ran the uninstaller first, rebooted, ran the TrustedRights and it was all good, and then ran the installer. Media Center installed and I rebooted, but when I try to launch the program I get the dialog box that it's "stopped working" and to Close the program. Any ideas? I'm not sure what the deal is.....it was working totally fine before this. Thanks.
When you install a new Motherboard, CPU, and Ram you also need new Windows. Re-Install Windows 10 and WMC.
Well I don't know about that.....I mean Windows as a whole is still running fine for me other than Media Center. Anyway I did finally get Media Center to run but now my problem is that I'm getting the error about PlayReady not properly updating and whenever I try to watch anything I get the error about my display device not being able to view protected content.
Gareth: I am able to connect my XBox 360 to WMC in Windows 10. I was able to do this a few months ago. It's a long drawn out procedure that involves multiple steps. You were on the right track changing RDP to 3390... However, I don't do it this way, I instead use netsh and forward 3390 -> 3389 (this way regular RDP still works as well).... Also, to get it to work, you must NOT use your patched ehshell.dll... Reason being is just like RDP, issue, it tries to load WMC in Full Screen and guess what? It doesn't work because the patch ... So, you have to connect it without the patch which then in turn prevents you from doing any video playback .... If we can fix the RDP Full Screen issue, WMC for the XBox 360 will work after this. We just need the full screen to work so that the XBox 360 doesn't just show a black screen when connected like RDP does.
I hear ya on that one...funny thing, if you run Windows Media PLAYER in RDP and play a video file(not a WTV), you can run full screen with out an issue. Over my local lan, it's flawless, audio is smooth video at 1080p is flawless. If I drop it in a window, it gets a little choppy and breaks up a little. So to get a TRUE "softsled" (softsled=Software Extender), we would need it to be run at full screen... So close but yet so far...
Interesting. I saw the Black Screen issue the first time with Windows 8. XBox was working with 8/8.1, but the Ceton Extender not -> Black Screen. But People found out that it was still controllable and start Live TV or a video for example. (with Ceton Remote App) Can you test if it’s possible to start live TV on the XBox ? (Just note the Key Order of the IR Remote and try this order when the XBox is connected and shows a black Screen)
Hi meluvalli, Thanks for posting to explain. So to really help with testing i need to hex edit my original ehshell.exe which came with the 12.7 installer with Graznocks latest change then install that using the patch installer. So therefore I'd be running his latest chnage with no RDP patch. Then try and alter the ports the Extender connects via as you advice via so at leat the extender connects to the extent i can use it to view the guide, set a rogram to record but not alter TV settings or view video which is blocked on an RDP connection. And hopefully find it doesn't drop after 5 mins and if it doesn't then Hooray we've tested it working wihtout dropping. Then further testing investigation needs doing to get video to work. I'll try testing this evening! Has anyone else had a succes?? Best Regards Gareth

I would be interested to read how they got Echo slightly working in 8/8.1. Do you remember where that conversation was?
On several places, german mce forum, tgb.tv and here http : // answers.microsoft. com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/windows-8-pro-media-extender-gives-black-screen/ccccb934-7102-4ea3-9e67-7e8deea77d25?auth=1
Graznok, I keep backups and I had a patched one with the 2 fixes (volume and display res) and it worked with Extenders. So tonight I figured I would try your patch again as it was not working on my current install for some reason. So I restored the one with the patch.... I tested it, the volume and res check is working as it should, I was able to connect to the Extender fine. I extracted WMC7601x64-RDP-patch-V2.7z, I added the 2 patches (volume and display res) and your updated RDP patch. I ran the script and WMC ran fine. I connected via RDP, Recorded TV played fine but, live TV would go to "Display error". After this, I poped out of RDP, ran WMC on the computer, then I went into the other room to try the EXTENDER..... Same problem as alone with the RDP patch, it shows connecting (downloading from the PC) and it just times out trying to connect. This patch didn't work for the Extender....
Thanks, now I remember how they got the Echo almost working. Somebody just told me about this a couple months ago. What I heard they did was upgrade a completely configured (with extenders) Win7, to Win8 or 8.1. I have tried this on Win10 (one time). Win10 deleted all/most of the configuration, with the exception of the MCX account's. I totally missed Win8/8.1 (2013-2014). I was busy figuring out how to build a network...wire, router, switch, server, etc.
