I deleted this Certificate on my Windows 8.1 WMC Edition PC, rebooted and I can still RDP into port 3390... So this isn't the license :(... I really think the key would be finding where this "License" is stored.. I'm wondering if we just "Copied" the license onto a Windows 10 machine if this would solve all the problems.

So I've been following this project from the beginning and decided to jump in when I found an extra machine to use as a test. It is A win10 Pro box with a Hauppauge hvr-1800 tuner card on local cable.

I dl v12 and the other two files, followed the instructions and all installed successfully......twice. I've read through all the tweaks and tried all but starting from scratch (I won't be in front of the machine until Monday). WMC starts up and plays live tv, but I cannot for the life of me get the guide to download. I've only gotten the initial setup to go through once only to get "there is no guide data to dl in your area". The rest of the tries give me "The tv setup data cannot be dl". I have uninstalled WMC and reinstalled, tried different ip's in the host file, did the sfc /scannow, repaired .net, deleted the db files, ran the recoveries in task scheduler, ran everything as administrator and refreshed the pc, all with the same result. I checked my zip code in that online guide and it came up with my cable company, but I never got that option in WMC although it does find my card and some of the lower channels.

I've seen some other people have it too lately, but no solve. Just wondering if there was something new? Or if maybe I missed something? I have two other WMC boxes on win7 at the same location with no issues and they don't have any ip reference in the host files.

I finally had some time to revisit this and tried to download the v8 version which I also saw other comments suggests has a 'better' uninstaller. Unfortunately all the v8 download links are broken. Does anyone have a working v8 download link?

I think the problem is on the Rovi end. Not much you can do, other than complain to them. Others have used tools such as Guide Tool and a new one called Lineup Selector, to inject a missing lineup into WMC. You might be able to use one of those tools to extract the missing lineup from one of your 7's

I think I have seen instructions on the process at thegreenbutton.tv in the Guide Section.

There isn't any problem installing it on Enterprise or even Enterprise LTSB.

If you are on N version you have to install the media feature pack before.

For the record the very first success I had with this port was on an LTSB N + Media Feature Pack

My .NET settings did already look like yours before I did anything else, this was I believe down to the Guide Tool installer itself downloading and installing .NET as needed. (Perhaps that is the problem.)

I have also tried enabling all the 3.5 options in full, unfortunately Guide Tool is still crashing. I also wiped and reinstalled Win10 and reinstalled WMC and Guide Tool but with the same results. I did let Guide Tool install .NET itself again.

Any further suggestions on how to get it working?

Thanks, I have both of those forums you mentioned up, but have not gotten a chance to play with it yet.
This forum and others at thegreenbutton have been awesome. I appreciate everyone's hard work and knowledge.

    EDIT
I'm trying the Guide Tool and it is not pulling any guide services since I can't get the tv setup data to download in WMC. So I'm still stuck and I'm assuming that the lineup selector would have the same problem.

Any special install instructions, other than the one on readme.txt included in the download?

My experience so far is the following : the install goes well until the TV configuration, it always gives me the error message "windows media center is unable to determine your tv signal configuration".

I'm in Canada, on a clean Windows 10 install, using v12. I tried installing without, then with, Pete Near's ATSC hack.

Anyone having any luck with v12 on the latest insider build (14271)?

Opening WMC via the shortcut or directly at C:\Windows\ehome\ehshell.exe, nothing happens - I get a Windows circular hourglass mouse briefly and then that's it.

Event Viewer suggests it's a .NET issue?

Thanks. I figured it out meanwhile, but I'll be sure to check these forums.

Here's my fix, it might help someone else.

As on Windows 7 and 8.1, in Canada, ATSC and QAM signals are not enabled by default in MCE. Fortunately, Peter Near designed a hack to get past that. It is found here (I can't publish the link since I don't have 20 posts registered, just google "peter near atsc canada"). The thing that made it working for me is to install the hack as a regular user, not as an administrator. That's it!

The signal recognition worked fine after that, every channels were found and guide automatically installed!

Thanks everybody working on the port!

Although I used with success previous versions in 32/64-bit, the image version 10.0.10586.0, extracted file WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12.zip for my WIN 10 64-bit doesn't work for me.

"DISM failed. No operation was performed."

I uninstalled, checked the registry, rebooted... always the same.

    I had by chance an old one that I kept and that one works, everything TV guide;
    WindowsMediaCenter_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v10

I also tried another one back in January (I think that it was 11.X) and I was never been able to set up the TV guide.

Do you normally use DCA wherever you are? Did you run it from WMC Extra's?

Kodi is NOT a good replacement for Media Center - especially if don't live in the US. It dosen't support Live TV natively - it relies on a plug in like MythTV which is barely supported anymore. It doesn't support CableBoxes either - most other packages don't unless they're cablecard enabled, which is mainly the US, again. And compared to Media Center - Kodi is a nightmare to set up.

I really wish the Kodi fans would actually *listen* to what the Media Center fans actually want before suggesting it.
