Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. But I've got this niggly little memory of thinking I'd have to avoid the Enterprise versions as some date because they wouldn't have WMC. Maybe early on in win10's development they decided WMC wasn't going into Enterprise releases but then later on decided to just can it outright. Gotta be some reason my win10 box remains so resistant to WMC though, I see other people having success with US EPG. Right now I can't even get v12 to run so maybe it's time to spend some quality SFC time... ...time passes... Got it to run with a bit of SFC and so on. Same result trying to set up the EPG though. Just for grins thought I'd ping the servers you're supposed to hack into the HOSTS file. One of them's there, others are not: C:\Windows\system32>ping cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com Pinging cdn.epg.tvdownload.microsoft.com [2.16.216.176] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 2.16.216.176: bytes=32 time=192ms TTL=50 Ping statistics for 2.16.216.176: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 191ms, Maximum = 192ms, Average = 191ms C:\Windows\system32>ping data.tvdownload.microsoft.com Pinging data.tvdownload.microsoft.com [65.55.186.113] with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Ping statistics for 65.55.186.113: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), C:\Windows\system32>ping 65.55.5.170 Pinging 65.55.5.170 with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Ping statistics for 65.55.5.170: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), Even using DNS names fails: C:\Users\Jonathan>ping data.tvdownload.microsoft.com Pinging data.tvdownload.windowsmedia.com.akadns.net [65.55.5.170] with 32 bytes of data: Request timed out. Ping statistics for 65.55.5.170: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss), Anyone else able to actually ping the data.tvdownload.microsoft.com server? Guess it could just be behind a firewall I suppose but VPNing across state boundaries doesn't improve anything so it's not like it's a local issue.
Don't waste your time with Ping, most of them get sent to the trash can. I am surprised you got even 1 answer. Open up Workaround.txt, and try the suggestions again.
Done them all in countless variations, the reason for using ping was to check that the hosts file modifications were actually being used by WMC and then got side tracked noticing one replying and others not and of course ran with it forgetting that my own servers are largely unpingable... Regardless of whether the server actually responds to pings it at least shows me that the IPs used by apps come from the hosts file. If there's some other fix in there that isn't related to flushing the DNS and making sure the hosts are hacked to the fixed IPs I can't see it. At least the class not registered errors have gone away -- although that's only from the logs, I notice as I was trying to shock the thing into life the task scheduler restore task fails with one still. However if there's another permutation of the hacks to get the EPG working I can't imagine what it is. As near as I can tell you just can't fetch TV setup data for my zip code any more. Last win7 machine I setup in September I only got working by copying the setup data from another machine that worked, that doesn't seem to succeed with the win10 box though. Which doesn't mean I won't try it again tomorrow with the class not registered failures missing from the log file but I'm done for today I think.
XBox 360 Extender Setup Update: Well, I was able to finally get my XBox 360 Extender setup and connected and able to play video! However, the work around I have doesn't work very well at all.. The problem with it is, it works until you reboot the machine... Once the machine reboots, you have to re-apply the work-around. Also, as of now, I am only able to get it to work in a Hyper-V environment. So, bottom line... I was somewhat correct on the way to do it.. We need to figure out how to get the port 3390 to ignore the license. Without this, I think we will never get it .... For those interested on what I did, I basically copied the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions\ProductPolicy key from true WMC system... Doing this allowed it to see the license for the RDP on port 3390. Again, once you boot into windows, (even without logging in), the machine reverts this key back and therefore killing it again. So you have to re-apply it. And the only way you can right to this path in the registry is with the machine off and mount the VHD file, use LOAD HIVE function in REGEDIT and load the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file. Then you can access the CurrentControlSet within the HIVE and change it. Anyone have any other ideas, I'm all ears!
Try the above with the clipservice (and possibly also the spp sevice) disabled. The mod then should survive to the reboot, at least until a proper patch will be available.
hi there so i want to try install wmc on german windows 10. anybody know if the files work from here and wmc will be german or i need other files?
Hi Everyone I've been watching this thread for a while now. Can I just say a massive thanks to everyone that made this possible on windows 10. I still use windows 8.1 because of the Xbox 360 extender issue once you guys sort that out I'll be upgrading to 10. Just hope the M$ don't brake it once you sort it out. Again Thanks for your hard work.
I think that today we are one or more steps forward in the right direction. Wait for more details from meluvalli
Is what I've been discussing with meluvalli right now. For the record spp is (mostly ?) replaced by clipsvc in win 10
Yea, I know. I just "had to" find out how you knew about that. I put down the "Read the Entire Thread Project" Obviously I never got to August yet. I am going to start looking for a 360 and another TV today.
I figured out that when the experiments trough the "product policy editor" 100% worked on WHS, while it didn't on w10. PPE has a nice button to disable the sppsvc but, given it's relatively old, lacks the feature to disable the clipsvc. So, after a bit of brainstorming I had the classic "bulb turned on" over my head Finding a solution w/o using google is always a nice thing.
Most of the subjects that you guys work on are not in Google yet. I think that's why I like being here.
I edited to reflect your statement. I was referring to the Preview Version I tried out in Nov 2014. WMC was included in that version and just had to be "enabled" in Programs and Features.
