Interesting......I use WMC to record content on Verizon FIOS in the USA. I have no idea if it's protected or not. However, I play it via Plex on all my other TV/PC's just fine. I don't have any "premium" stations though. Plex recognizes and serves WMC files without issue. In fairness though, I haven't tried to take those files OFF the PC they were recorded on to see if they will play elsewhere. The PC that does the recording is also my Plex server so I don't know if that comes into play at all.
I didn't know 1.3 was 3 years old. That makes sense though, I have been using it for 3 years. I suppose I use it because it has never failed me. The whole idea behind installing DCA, PlayReady, and the tuner drivers first, (before you even start WMC for the first time), is to prepare the OS for the Setup of WMC. Many times in the past I have run into a WMC setup error, Oh s*** I forgot to install the ***. Recently I have added Lav Filters as part of the error prevention preliminaries. And when I run WMC I use Setup/Custom to force myself to configure all steps... internet, display, audio, tuner/guide/CableCard, etc.
On Windows DRM is DRM, although the process to buy is different around the world, the DRM subsystem in Windows should be the same on the global level. I remember reading a white page on DRM in Windows years ago and it stated something to that sort. So, is there anyone here using WIndows 10 WMC and has 360 extenders and no one has tested DRM ? The problem is, the channel that WAS DRM protected in my home, is no longer protected, so I have no DRM content any more to test on WMC. I have Windows 10 WMC v12 setup, I could attempt the 360 thing but, as for Protected content, I cant answer it....sad to say.
That has problems on some versions of WIndows besides XP (dont think it will even work on 8.1 or 10),If you needs to RESET DRM, The BEST to NUKE DRM to start over is to find the ResetDRM, Extract it, Run the exe, Download that DRM'd file I posted a link to, Run it in Windows Media PLAYER, It will download/install DRM componets, and if it can play successfully, then your DRM is working. Take the WMA file, put it on a folder that is accessable via extender, If it plays over the Extender, I would say DRM works on the Extender... When you have a recorded show, when you open it to see it's info/play the file, On the VERY bottom, it will say "Copy Protected" if it has DRM on it.. There is a way via Windows Explorer to do it by changing the view as well...
I got DCA installed and tried the workaround (putting it to sleep) but still doesnt find a tuner in the live setup. I have reinstalled the windows download from the silicondust.com/support/downloads/ but still no luck in finding the tuners. Any suggestions anyone. Its a HDHomerun Prime. I have Kodi running on the machine and it works, but id prefer WMC. Thanks again
Sounds like Kodi has a grip on your tuners. WMC will not setup until you tell Kodi to release the tuners.
With my HDHomerun Prime I install the drivers then install and run WMC and tuners not found, then reinstall/repair HDHomerun drivers then run WMC and tuners are found
Yes I have Kodi but it shouldn't matter The point is, 1. install HDHR drivers 2. install Wmc then run and let TV setup fail 3.Repair install HDHR drivers 4. Run WMC and TV setup should work
I don't know exactly what is wrong with this other guy's equipment. He is the only one that can figure that out. I am not disagreeing with your suggestion, I am suggesting something different, based on my personal experience with multiple Media Centers running on the same network. Example... I have a Win7/ServerWMC/Emby setup with dedicated access to an Infini4. When I plug-in the HDHR to the network, Emby will take the tuners. This prevents the setup of HDHR in my Win10. I had to prevent Emby from "taking" the tuners by going in to the Emby tuner settings and telling Emby to let go. After this was done Win10/WMCv12/HDHR completed tuner setup.
Well you better go tell them all how it's done then. Half the country is down for the count on Friday March 19.
After a recent bout of Win 10 updates, Media Centre seems to have vanished! Has this happened to anyone else?
Yes, it happened to a few during the Fall 2015 Update. I heard a rumor there is another update coming.
Are you talking about Redstone, which should be coming this summer and will almost certainly remove WMC, or some more immediate Windows update that could break WMC?
