Hello, I tested some WMC-related programs with WMC v12. My configuration : Windows 10 pro x64 from a Windows 7 migration, analogic sound, DVI video connection, DVB-T numeric TV in France. I use KLite basic codec pack and Haali Media Splitter last versions (Haali splitter handles only .mkv files because some embedded subtitles in some mkv files doesn't load with only LAV filters enabled). Windows media foundation is disabled for .mkv and .m4a files. I tested Shark codecs with same results (haali media splitter is still needed for these .mkv files subtitles). - My Channel Logo : OK - Media Center Themer : OK. I have now a nice wallpaper instead of the old WMC Windows 7 style one ! - Media Control : installation OK but doesn't work (error message when launched in WMC), and doesn't seem to handle LAV Filters. I Didn't test it in Windows 8, but was cool to select audio tracks and subtitles via the remote when used in Windows 7. - DVD : OK, but if you want to have DTS audio track you have to first disable Microsoft DVT-DVD audio decoder - TV OK, guide OK (some days it doesn't work, no matters). I don't have possibility to test DRM files. I didn't test recording, I don't use it. - Sound of AC3 files is OK after enabling Loudness equalization in the advanced properties of my speakers (right click in sound taskbar icon --> play devices --> properties of the selected speakers --> ameliorations). - WMC is not deleted after Windows 10 updates in my case. Great work guys !
Thanks for heads up, been trying to update my 7, 8.1 and 10 for several days with no success. Just updated to 3-29 on all three.
I have a question about updating my main computer from Win 8.1 Pro with WMC installed and running fine with HDHomerun to Win 10 Pro. Is there anything I should do before I update to 10? I have a laptop that I updated to 10 a few months ago and installed one of the earlier versions of WMC from here and have kept it updated, it works fine with the same HDHomerun but that was a clean install of WMC not an update with WMC installed already.
HDHomeRun will be fine, just rescan your channels prior to installing WMC. Make sure that BDA Compatibility mode is set to Windows Media Center. If HDHomePrime View works O.K. then proceed to the install, otherwise resolve any problems with this prior to continuing. You will most likely lose your scheduled program listings and channel selections, unless you use a tool to backup. It was recommended to use Seans WMC Backup tool by another user on this forum.
Sometimes the dragged WMC settings aren't managed properly (something that happens frequently even updating from Win7 Wmc to Win 8 WMC). In such event WMC on W10 will refuse to start. Launching the WMC recovery task will fix the problem (then you will have to start your WMC configuration from scratch)
I've been trying to read as much as I can to find answers. But the post go every which way at times. I've had v 11 running on my machine win10 updated from win7. I always used WMC to record old movies and such. But in testing v11 it didn't record a scheduled movie. I'm trying to get v12 working. As far as I can see it would load onto the machine but never work. I'm trying the "install v8 uninstall, install v12" method but still a no go. v12 just doesn't start. Is v12 better at scheduled recording? or is there a way to setup v11 that I don't know about? I lock my machine while I'm not on it. I have it set to "not" sleep. I don't record or watch protected content and don't use extenders.
Scheduled recordings on older version works if you add the network service to the administrator group. Usually if WMC wont start its because a corrupt config (v8 uninstaller should remove it), anyway try to launch the WMC recovery task or stop the wmc services and delete manually everything inside the /programdata/microsoft/ehome directory
I tried v12 again with no luck. I remember seeing the workaround. So I'm setting up v11 right now and will try adding the service. Maybe I'll try Tolberts method.
You can also have a look at my method, and the methods of a few others, if you click the v12 in my signature.
I ended up doing a restore point to before I started trying. Ran a scan on my system to verify that all my file were good. Then loaded v8 on and rebooted. Started WMC and quit. Then uninstalled v8 and rebooted. Installed v12 and rebooted. Started v12 and am setting up my tuners right now.... I'll schedule a recording for later and see if it works.
