Guys, just set forum's default to 40 messages per page, will be a lot easier to keep track of old messages.
1) I normally uninstall the previous version with the previous version uninstaller, then reboot. When I install the new version, I use Windows Explorer to navigate to the install folder, Right-click TestRights and select RunAsAdministrator. TestRights will open a second window. In this second window you will need to change directory (cd) and navigate to your install directory. My v12 install directory is... cd C:\Win10Project\WMC\WMC_v12\WMC64 then type installer 2) A couple times, due to my inexperience running this type of install, I have botched the install, requiring that I clean up the mess before proceeding. Since I have nothing to lose on this "test box" Win10 reset or a Pre-WMC Restore Point have been used. 3) If you do have something to lose, the other method of reset/repair is to uninstall all your versions, boot, then install v8/boot/run SFC repair/boot/then uninstall v8/cold boot.....Then start fresh with v12 (yes, there is a v8, but you will have to look for it, the link is in my Signature, Do not use Download Manager)
v8 The link to v8 may be found in post #1245 (forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/61061-DISCUSSION-Patch-WMC-to-run-on-Windows-10-final-amp-possible-alternatives?p=1142647&viewfull=1#post1142647) in the "Previous versions" section. At this time, the Mega and files.fm links are dead, as are most of the links under "Mirrors". I did, however, find it still available at one of the mirrors (www . datafilehost.com/d/fa4191d8). As crash2009 explained above, v8 has become an important part of the install process for many users. Hopefully links to v8 will continue to be maintained along with links to the latest version. crash2009: Please consider adding a link to v8 to your footer which has become the defacto (and very helpful) index in this thread. Thanks to all for your contributions!
Right now most of the chatter is about extenders and removes. The one main reason I used WMC was to record movies on clear channels and and edit them with movie maker. I liked wmm 6 but can't seem to get it to work in windows 10. I have wmm 12 working, but the audio in the files that WMC is saving now is gone. In fact GSpot reports an "error reported by DirectShow" "0x00040242 (unknown)" I have the latest K-lite codec pack mega loaded if that help. Anyone have any ideas? They all work fine in WMP and WMC but not in WMM 12. I mean if I have to re-encode every video just to load it in movie maker, that kind of kills the need for WMC.
Well, if updating to the latest fast release today had not of corrected whatever it was I would give that a go.. It installed normally for me and even remembered my recording schedule. I still had to do the tuner setup though.
That is a workaround meant for people who faced the problem, if yours wasn't broken there was any point on following it.
I went the the beta fast a week or so ago from 1511 and that's when it fubared. I did not uninstall it as it has been doing fine with all the major updates until 1511. It had issues when I went to the beta though. I planned on installing whatever came next as I'm on the fast ring so the timing was just right for a quick fix. It would be nice to sort out what is causing the problem though. I think it's a .net issue myself..
I've been wrestling with EPG Collector as a way to add OTA guide data to my otherwise perfect WMC installation on Windows 10. I know it's possible, but apparently you have to be a genius to figure it out. I just posted a message in the support forum. Maybe someone there can clue me in. If I can get it working, it solves all my problems. Meanwhile, the clock is ticking on my window to return my Tablo, which I actually love, but it cost a lot - especially with what they want for the guide - so I thought I could find a cheaper solution. But this is taking half my life to figure out. Right now I'm ready to give up and keep the Tablo. It's wonderful.
Why would I install v8 and then uninstall it? I've never had v8 installed. I installed v10. Uninstalled it. Tried several times, unsuccessfully, to install v12. Uninstalled it. Then easily went back to v10, which works perfectly for me except there's no guide. Seems to me something is wrong with v12, if so many people have trouble installing it, no? And again, what's the magic in installing then uninstalling a version I never installed in the first place?
v8 has a different/possibly better, uninstaller. Not sure why some hardware, or Win10 configurations have trouble with v12 Click v12 in my signature. I had no trouble going from v11 to v12. My install notes and observations, as well as others are written there. I must have had guide trouble with v10 also....I seem to remember being somewhat surprised when the guide worked without assistance in v11
You're here because you want some help or just to flame a bit? I discovered that V8 is fine as a cleaner, IF something went wrong with newer installer uninstaller. That is. If you are interested in what that happens, just read the forum back or look at the install uninstall scripts and try to figure it yourself.
Hallo alltogether. I apologize my bad english (i`m german). Today I tried to install WMC_6.3.9600.16384_x64_v12 on a Win 10 ver 1511Build 10586.164. No Luck (aborted). Then I tried v11 an got it installed. My problem: in the TV-setup: part> TV-Programm herunterladen(german) english might be "TV-Program download" for TV lists to view and record (14 days) there is no progress at all. Can somebody help me (maybe in german language)
I wasn't flaming. I was just asking a question. Thanks for the answer. I will install v8, etc., and see how that goes.
Pretty simple. IF the DISM process fails on W12, for whatever reason, some files may be left on filesystem, and that prevents a fresh reinstallation. On the other hand V8 has nothing to do with DISM, it just writes/deletes the files one by one using tustedinstaller's rights, so is able to delete something that the newer script can't do using DISM. Surely the v8 uninstaller can be added / tweaked, as emergency uninstaller on V13 or whatever will be called. But that isn't an urgent task. V8 installs and uninstalls the WMC in something like 10 seconds, so not a biggie.
I use v5 and it works just fine. I am not tempted to try other versions and run the risk of screwing things up.
I got no v8. Just popups with grotesque porn and a serious spam thing that tried to take over my computer. You people flame at me for not installing your supported versions and following your procedures, but when I try, this is what happens. WTF??
For people outside the US there are just minor improvements on the latest versions. Say my channell logos works fully on v12. Anyway The settings backup/restore sctript included on V12 can be used on any version and that alone is enough to download the V12 package even if you don't want to upgrade
Links to v8 are dead there. I have reuploaded it and relinked many times in the latest pages. Anyway would be better for you to install a good browser like vivaldi coupled with a decent adblocker like ublock origins and/or to learn how to use jdownloader. There are something like 10 things that is mandatory to learn in the AD2016 to use a PC. Three of them are the ones written above.
