Rufus is way quicker, safer, better than the clunky tool form MS. Unlike the latter it doesn't need to be installed, and is good to make a bootable stick/dvd/sdcard from practically any ISO or floppy image. Dos, linux, any windows version, android and so on...
Just made a post but it seems to have disappeared :-( I've updated today to v12 and now WMC doesn't start anymore. I also had to look for the shortcut, as it didn't place it on my desktop as with v10 or v11. Reverting back to v10 or v11 also killed my digitenne TV reception, I now have 0 channels (anysee E30 USB). Also I can't find a good download for v8, the only live link results in a 1MB exe file, which needless to say I'm not executing. Any suggestions? Running W10 x64 on a laptop.
This has been posted many times, crash 2009 has a good link listed in his sig. When downloading you just have to untick the box to use the download manager. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am.
Gareth, I am not sure I want to mess around with Windows, it works so nicely as well as WMC. Are we really sure about that version prevent from connecting 360? On the other hand, if something goes wrong I have an image of c:\ done every week which I can place back if needed.
Launch the mesdiacenter recovery task before wasting your time with a uninnstallation and reinstallation.
Impossible since %SystemRoot%\ehome\mcupdate.exe doesn't exist. There's also many errors in the system logs regarding unable to create tasks (v12 installation) relating to mcupdate.exe, ehrec.exe and ehPrivJob.exe (all three files are not found on my system after installation either). Theres about 23 Task Scheduler errors regarding incorrect task configuration. I was running v11 without problems but can't return to that version either, so far no joy. Edit: I'm going to uninstall each version with a boot in between, then install the v8, run the sfc /scannow and then uninstall the v8 and install the v12 again. Will probably be a few days before I get back to a WiFi point, but hope that will fix it (I have all files on my laptop). Was reading trough the topics up to a few weeks back to see what people used as possible fix and will try as far as I can (mostly the notes from Crash and the "Tolbert" method).
Possibly I am just incredibly stupid, but no matter what version of Win 10 I install, stopping all updates, etc., after installing v12 successfully, DCA, Ceton4 drivers, Play Ready, et al(all say successful install)...once I start to set up LIVE TV & get to the part where I enter the zip code MC crashes & restarts...keeps doing that & goes no further. Am I missing something? Do I need to start this process by upgrading my working Win 7 image & go from there? I have been just installing RTM copies of Win 10 & trying to install from there & having no success no matter how many times I read this thread or how many times I try the different methods, fixes, etc...Thanks
Are you trying to use the InfiniTV 4 PCIe or USB? The USB is not supported with Win 8 (nor presumably Win 10).
Well, v12 is a no-go here. I managed to get v11 running again after alot of scans, installs, uninstalls and some register cleanup. I'll wait for a future version Thanks for the advices and help to get v12 running.
That was the key! Thank you so much....extreme brain fart on my part...never would have thought that program had to be run as administrator to set it up!
I've had good experiences installing v.11 and v.12 on three machines running Win 10 Pro x64 v10586 with HD Homerun Prime as tuners. However, build 14295 is another story for me. Either WMC v.11 or v.12 will install but neither will detect the tuner. I have tried all the tricks found by all you helpful folks but so far, nada. All firewall and services are the same as those found in build 10586, tuner drivers installed before and after WMC installation, reboots, etc. Fortunately I have a disk image of the "good 10586" that I use for restoration after frustration limit is reached.
Was a behavior seen on the latest W10 builds with the "official" WMC (10134/10135..). It was fixed by us with the right permissions to the involved registry branches. But maybe your drivers still have problems with them.
I had version 12 working fine, then I installed MCL XL for logos, now Media center will not start. Uninstalled, installed ver 8, uninstalled and reinstalled v12. Still nothing. Does anyone have any ideas? I click the icon and it spins for about 5 seconds, then nothing.
Try running sfc /scannow ... I was dead in the water until I tried that out of desperation, and all of a sudden everything in V12 started working.
FWIW, build 14295 would not allow SFC to run on my machines. Build 14231, however, will run it. Still no tuners found in this build yet with easily installed WMC v.12. Correction: Should have been build 14316 instead of 14231
