That sounds like a good idea. It'll have to wait for a weekend though.

 

I think you could also try to load wmc /GDI

Not sure of the syntax.

 

Afaik /dx9 is the right switch, likely your version works as well

With /gdi you get no video at all. It's just meant for debugging purposes i think.

I've installed WindowsMediaCenter_10.0.10134.0v2.1 on Windows 10. There is one problem, scheduled recording doesn't record. Also problem with series recording.

You can see the program in "view scheduled" even when the time for the recording has past. It will only start recording when you click on that program in the guide. Please help

Version v2.1 is pretty old. WMC versions are much more advanced now. Problems like you are experiencing have been corrected. Have a look in my signature and try out v11 or v12. This is also a good place to start reading about others experiences with the newer versions. Uninstall v2.1 with the v2.1 uninstaller. Installation instructions for v11 or v12 are inside Readme.txt and Workaround.txt which you will find in the new installation folder.

 

I did a fresh install of W10.
Having previously tried V12 and had no guide.
I installed V8 which I read was good for non US users.
All seems fine except sometimes this error when I select a channel from the guide.
"The MhegAddin program has stopped responding and you will be returned to Windows Media Center"

Separate question:
Also - I used to run the DWORD fix to stop Periodic Scanning.
I can't see where to add this in the W10 registry if indeed it's still needed.
If background scanning happens it will litter my set-up with weak channels.

Point taken about Mheg being a UK thing.
Yes when I searched MhegAddin I got lots of hits but most to do with W7.
As this is on W10 I didn't think any of the comments got me far.
I'm not that hot with technicalities but I am a fan of WMC.
If someone here has had and solved the problem it might make life easier for me.
The error doesn't occur all the time and my PC is still very watchable.

 

Try thegreenbutton.tv. ...... 16 hits is not bad..... several members are from the UK. I'm pretty sure Rob (HolidayBoy) has dealt with this before..... PM him.

Dunno about the green button since I'm using a harmony 700. I'll try to see if I can configure the remote for it and let you know.

 

If you're using the "Windows Media Center SE" device on your Harmony then the "Media" key is the equivalent of the MCE Green button, I always map "media" to the menu key for that activity.

 

What is it supposed to do? just launch wmc from the desktop? I just checked my remote and didn't see media or anything on the soft buttons but I tried using the live TV button on the soft key and it just launched wmc live TV with no problems.

 

Googling for it shows only people with problems, but no explanation about that that plugin is supposed to do.

The big green button on the original remote is used to launch Media Center at it's main menu. It also returns to the main menu however deep you are within Media Centre.

"Microsoft Windows Media Center SE" is a device in the Harmony database. You can add it to your HTPC activity and you'll get access to heaps of useful keystrokes and buttons, that can be assigned to any of the remote's buttons or to the LCD.

 

Figured this subject might not get a lot of traction here but, figured I would ask...

What is the possibility to get Cortana on Windows 10 to work with WMC ? Like putting on channel numbers, search for a show, play a recorded show or movie. Those type of things.

I know there is API for Cortana to work with 3rd party apps, and all Microsoft's guide, movies, and recorded content is indexed in Windows, so with someone with the right know how could possibly do something like this...

I'll admit, this would be pretty cool, Voice control for WMC has been out(back from the Vista days) but never really worked good but, Cortana seems to hear words pretty well...

Use the Shark007 package to reach these settings

There are similar checkboxes for AVI and MP4 on their respective TABS in my App.
Also make the correct selection on the Audio TAB.

Be sure to uninstall LAV before installing my codec package.
