Anyone have any thoughts on this? I DID try and restart my hdhomerun tuner as I saw that in a previous post. Never mind. I found a bit where someone said they reinstalled the HDhomerun again after installing WMC and it fixed mine too.
thanks. i installed an older version that did not have my error code in it. I ended up reverting to win 7 then installing the upgrade since preview/insider would not take my key. Anyway, going to follow your directions and read more and install on new installation of windows 10. thank you. I posted the hardware information because this type of alienware errors out during win10 installation and I was unsure if that mattered. Either way, thank you again.
Installed everything, then tried to run a recorded HBO show and it gives me the "run the digital advisor" message. Then I realized i didnt install that before I installed WMC. Downloaded it from Crash2009's signature and installed, but still no go. Do I really have to uninstall WMC and then do it all over again? I hope not?? Edit: When I initally tried to activate it through WMC my computer crashed. Then I downloaded the file from the signature and I could walk through the WMC activation. And it successfully completed. But I still can't play the file, getting the same error message... Edit2: So it turns out the file from Crash2009 did it's trick after all. I can watch HBO live TV, it was just a recording from the weekend (before I activated the advisor) that still won't work. And I was using that recording as reference, which was pretty dumb Now the only thing that is not 100% is getting 5.1 surround for live TV and recordings with Shark's codecs. I got passthrough working for Emby WMC, for live TV I keep getting PCM only, although following the instructions. Using the advanced codec pack.
Tried this too BTW but still no joy - any others ideas - anyone - anyone - Bueller? WMC working great, just no surround. PS thanks for all hard work DEVs.
This is most often caused by setting the speaker count in Control Panel to something other than stereo.
That is exactly my point. If it worked fine in 8.1 without additional codecs, why would you think codecs can solve your issue now?
I tried both. If I set it to stereo in the Win sound settings, I only get stereo for live TV. If I set it to 5.1 surround, I get sound on all speakers, but it's still just stereo. I have pretty much all the settings just like everyone recommends and what shark has posted on his site. Pull down FFDSHOW audio options have pass through checked for all the sound formats. I have all files playing fine in Emby for WMC, it's just live and recorded TV that only does stereo for me. I guess I must be missing some check mark or option.
But......if you set it to 5.1 and you get only stereo (this means "double" stereo, front and back) it mostly means that the setup of the receiver is wrong and that it has nothing to do further more whit whatever in your windows setup. So try to use a different setting in the receiver output.......
Although I do not have Freesat myself, this was the best answer I could find for your issue. These settings are for Freesat itself, not for your PC.
No, it works fine everywhere else (with the Win 10 video app, with Emby for WMC, in Kodi) and I am getting DTS, DD etc, just not for live TV. The receiver settings are fine. (PC-Rreceiver-TV via HDMI, not some crazy ARC setup)
thanks but my pc is toslink out to AVR. all works great, just windows media centre live tv. I notice that the speaker setup is missing in setting within WMC.
I haven't gotten any response from this, I just went back to Windows 8.1 to get WMC going again (I only use this machine for a DVR). Maybe in the future this will be addressed and I can try again.
I found a helpful explanation at the green button how the sound works for WMC: forums/viewtopic.php?p=85092#p85092 But unfortunately I can't make any changes to the WMC audio settings, since the setup is not working and jumps right to the end. Navigation sounds are disabled. I'll set a restore point this weekend and mess with the codecs and see if that helps. In Windows 7 I only had the minimalist setup for MKVs per hack7mc and that was it, never had any issues.
