I suppose I call Kodi my Plan B due to its inability to play my CableCard tuners DRM channels. But since disconnecting my Cable Service for the summer, Kodi has become my Plan A. This is the first time that I have disconnected the cable services to force myself to explore the Live Internet Channels. From what I have seen during this 10 day experiment, this may be all I need, since I don't really watch TV. Prior to 10 days ago, my 1965 NEC in the workshop, had been dutifully playing The History Channel 24/7 for a few years. The Media Room always got a bit more of a channel workout, but Kodi is doing a great job of substituting the CableCard tuners. Since finding dnaTVGuide, which maps the LiveInternetChannels to an actual EPG type guide, this makes Kodi appear as if my own CableCardTuners were connected.
Has anyone gotten a complete installation of WMC with the HDHR3-CC on any of the 14xxx builds? I understand that it has been accomplished with SiliconDust products but I'm specifically interested in the Cable Card version with DRM active. I have not been able to get the tuners recognized using the latest drivers listed. Any advice to get it to work as well as it does in the 10586 series of builds will be welcomed and appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I'm unfortunately with you crash. I'm still running Windows 7 with Xbox 360 extenders because my confidence in Windows 10 media center is still too shaky. I read through this thread every day and reading troubleshooting steps like "format the PC and do a fresh install of Windows 10" just isn't going to fly. I've been playing around with Kodi and, as an OTA TV and internet user, I think it's going to work out. I would probably want to ditch Media Center in a few years anyway when ATSC 3.0 broadcasts start popping up. I'm sure MC won't be able to handle those, and even if it could, those 360s won't. I'll do the full switch-over once Kaby Lake NUCs hit retail (full 10-bit HEVC decode and HDMI 2.0 support). I still enjoy reading this thread and all the progress everyone here has been making though. Keep it up everyone!
In my country we say that "a falling tree makes more noise than a growing forest". Is pretty obvious that a forum thread has a lot of people talking about their troubles. Troubles that in large part are coming from "normal" Windows problems, not from WMC itself. This thread has way more than 1 millions of contacts, and even taking in account many people who check the thread every day, that's still a really big number, and the problems are way less evident than many commercial and officially supported SW. Personally I had practically zero problems after the first months dedicated mostly to stabilize and iron out the remaining glitches. WMC on w10 does already more than it was used to, on older Windows. You can use it from a cellphone, you can install it on W10 no matter the version. You can install it on server, enterprise, home, embedded. You can use it from a random RDP connection and so on. Personally I consider it an huge result not just comparing W10 WMC with a naked W10. But comparing the 2016WMC with the one from 2005 or 2010.
Same here. On 14332 I I haven't been able to get WMC v10 to v12 to recognize any tuner, using HDhomerun or my Ceton. Now on 10586 and below I am. I just wiped my test box again to go back. Now I still use W7 as my main with all my 360's floating around. But what does it really mean for the future. Oh well Edit: I would like to add, It would be nice to see proof on 14332 because I tried everything including multiple installs of the OS
That seem more a BDA stack variation rather than a problem of WMC itself. But hard to bisect from Europe. As both my dvb-t tuner and the virtual tuners from dvblink are still working as usual on 14322, 14332 and 14342. Did you try to restore a backup of the setting done on th2 before upgrading it?
I am having great luck with WMC on W10 using HDHomeRun Prime so far, so now I am wondering whether I need to start taking action to block the redstone 14xxx updates that are coming our way. To alleviate my concerns, I would be grateful if anyone using HD HomeRun prime can report having no problems on RedStone preview builds, even when watching DRM channels such as HBO.
I agree, I am not blaming the WMC patch. Microsoft has changed the base build from the threshold series but I've not been able to isolate it/them. My tools are limited to registry comparisons so far. Yes I tried the restore of successful th2 settings but no luck.
According to my experience the settings taken from one installation hardly will in another, I never checked that thoroughly, but I guess there is some unique ID involved in the process. So You should try that on an upgraded windows, not on a clean one. Not sure if you already tried that.
Yes on the 1586 series the restoration seems to work but I don't have an 8.1 to 1586 to 14342 (latest) transition installation to try it on. Some of the setup settings, like getting the populated Guide will work in the 14xxx builds. Might be worth a shot HDHomerun View has no difficulty in any of the 14xxx builds so far but of course that is a limited experience without DRM capability. DCA and Playready have no problems installing. I'm compareing the registry settings for WMC and Tuner searches but haven't found the "smoking gun" yet.
I just updated recently and now my extender xbox 360 disconnects every 10 minutes, these are the updates I've installed: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3156421) Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3157993) Winver is 10586.318 Is there anything I should check or try for debugging? I'm ok doing a roll back but would love to help keep this stable for myself and document it to keep it working for others. Edit: event log extract: The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160} and APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} to the user DESKTOP\Mcx2-DESKTOPSID (S-1-5-21-1462518923-3392678212-397235382-1004) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.
Try this: Substitute your CLSID and AppID!! 1. Open Regedit. 2. Go to HKEY_Classes_Root\CLSID\*CLSID*. Note: *CLSID* stand for the ID that appears in your event viewer error. In your case, it's {C2F03A33-21F5-47FA-B4BB-156362A2F239}. 3. Right click on it then select permission. 4. Click Advance and change the owner to administrators. Also click the box that will appear below the owner line. 5. Apply full control. 6. Close the tab then go to HKEY_LocalMachine\Software\Classes\AppID\*APPID*. Note: *AppID* is the ID that appears in your event viewer. In your case it's {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97}. 7. Right click on it then select permission. 8. Click Advance and change the owner to administrators. 9. Click the box that will appear below the owner line. 10. Click Apply and grant full control to Administrators. 11. Close all tabs and go to Administrative tool. 12. Open component services. 13. Click Computer, click my computer, then click DCOM. 14. Look for the corresponding service that appears on the error viewer. 15. Right click on it then click properties. 16. Click security tab then click Add User. Add SYSTEM then apply. 17. Tick the Activate local box. I had the same issue and this worked for me. Hope it works for you!
Thanks for the super fast response, but now i'm stuck at the last steps there in the Component services I hit properties for this app RuntimeBroker but it is all greyed out just see Launch and activation, access Configuration permissions boxes all grey, edit doesn't work, all have the customize bubble filled in. Edit: no longer grey, I added System to the Launch and Activation settings and gave local Activation permission Just tested, still failed after 10 minutes, it looks like it's the Mcx user trying to run the app, would I need to add that user to the launch activation instead of System? Also to help with searches the event id is 10016 for my error
There a specific version of Win 10 we must stay on or can we update to latest and it not effect WMC +extenders?
I'm not so sure you are "with me". For starters you don't even have Win10/WMC installed. You base your opinion upon the failure of others, and in the back of your mind, you have already ditched WMC, possibly even extenders too. My exploration into Kodi and Live Internet Channels is geared more to what I can add to WMC rather than something to replace it with.
I don't have the Extender changes applied so I can only show you what my Component settings are for that AppID. {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} All Application PackagesLocal LaunchLocal Activation Self Local LaunchLocal Activation Local ServiceLocal LaunchLocal Activation This is on 10586.318
