I added the mcx users to the Local Launch and Local Activations, it looks like it's not throwing the 10016 error but it is throwing an app crash at 10 minutes still, here's that log At crash time: Application log for event id 1000 Faulting application name: sihost.exe, version: 10.0.10586.0, time stamp: 0x5632d7f9 Faulting module name: desktopshellext.dll, version: 10.0.10586.0, time stamp: 0x5632d811 Exception code: 0xc0000409 Fault offset: 0x000000000000a788 Faulting process id: 0xe2c Faulting application start time: 0x01d1ad55500a4800 Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\sihost.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\desktopshellext.dll Report Id: e079b2ef-5585-444a-a29a-71b5351886af Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID: Media center log: Event ID 123: The Media Center Extender session was terminated because an unauthorized window opened in the session. Has anybody tried to go in and search (TV --> Search --> Title) for a show? I can't seem to get anything to show up even though it is displaying on the guide. Any thoughts?
That sounds like the issue, so after a windows update what should the typical process be if something isn't right. Backup, uninstall v12, reinstall v12? or should I just do some steps manually? Last update went fine, this update had the issues I've been posting and troubleshooting, but perhaps an uninstall reinstall should have been my first step if that's what the consensus is. edit: did the uninstall, v8, sfc, reinstall v12 steps, set up extender again worked for 10 minutes even with that iacls line in the install.bat, ntrights etc.
I agree with your idea...Backup settings, un and re install would likely fix it. however, that seems to be overkill for a little blip like this. pm Meluvalli and ask for a response to your question. edit: Maybe something else got zapped by the update.
What about trying... Remove and block update, and then system restore? Last time I got nailed, all my restore points got zapped too. I have increased the size of the storage since then.
I tried system restore and it didn't complete at all, even though they didn't say the restore points were gone it just crashed on boot with a critical process failed to start sad face. I have a real win 7 style backup though too thanks to T-S recommendation, but I haven't gotten that desperate just yet. hopefully that will work if I need it, but I'd love to work through it if possible too =)
I had this issue at first. Deleting and recreating the indexing database fixed it. Control Panel --> Indexing Options I believe.
Hello! I am new to the forum and new to the process of making Media Center work in Win10! I have successfully installed Media Center last week in Windows 10 1511 (v. 10586.218), and yesterday it was upgraded automatically to v.10586.318. Today I tried to uninstall and reinstall today using meluvalli's instructions, in order to make Xbox 360 work... I uninstalled v12 first, then installed again after RDPWrap, using the instructions and modified files. At first it didn't work, however it synced OK with the Xbox 360 after a restart and with the second time trying... ;-) Note that I didn't uninstall the 2 KB updates mentioned in meluvalli's instructions! It was all OK until sometime later that I had also the same problems others are reporting, an unauthorized window terminating my connection. The error in event viewer didn't say which program was, however I then saw a lot of warnings with programs running and displaying windows at different times before the time the termination occurred! Isn't any window displayed capable of terminating the extender session? And how can we block programs from running in this session? (I think I had found more info about blocking explorer.exe in the previous pages of the thread, but I don't know if it is applicable in this situation...) Hello from Greece, Andrew!
As of today (after a Windows update?) I am getting "Copying Prohibited" The broadcaster prohibits this content from being copied. You can only play this content on the same computer on which it was recorded. HBO worked fine for me last week. Any thoughts?
Incredible work here guys, and for months I've had MCE working on my W10 installation. However, 4 days ago I noticed severe speed issues, and diagnosed it to a failing ethernet NIC port on my motherboard. Popped in a new MB and did a new install (had to go from my Win7 Ultimate image to Win10 Pro to get the license activation working). Im on the latest v1511 build 10586.318. Downloaded the latest v12 of MCE and like before followed the test guides to install it. Absolutely no issues/errors installing. However, it constantly fails during TV Setup at the "Download TV Setup Data" page. I have been reading thru as many posts as my eyeballs can take, and I just can't find the issue. I of course run MCE in administrator mode; added 2.16.216.176 and 65.55.186.113 (I'm on the east coast) while in administrator mode; did the ipconfig /flushdns; tried the deleting of mcepg3-0 file and folder (but when I reopened MCE it didn't go auto into setup Wizard...); I added "NETWORK SERVICE" to the administrator group; etc... I can go thru all the other setup wizard areas and add/find all my music and pictures folders, and MCE will open and run, but it just wont successfully download TV setup data step. I did try pinging and tracert on those two IP addresses but they both failed both tests if that is significant (I don't know if they respond to ICMP messages)? I'm not trying to do anything fancy here - just what I was doing a week ago - I have a HDHomerun tuner connected to my OTA antenna and recording my TV shows. No XBOX extenders needed or remote connection, or anything like that needed/used. Anybody have any ideas what might be going on/steps to remedy? Thanks again. David
Sounds like tuner driver problem...when you get to the BDA section of tuner driver install, make sure to select WMC. Not sure if you need it with OTA but you might want to install DCA and PlayReady. The links are in my signature.
Hi crash - really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my shout for help. The HDHomerun install "seems" to go fine and I did select WMC during the tuner drivers install. I didn't have to install DCA nor PlayReady with the previous instance (though that was using v11 of the MCE code..). Thanks!
Hmm, well, not sure what happened. I opened up HDHomerun and ran thru the Setup app to scan for each channel to check signal strength. Looked good/as expected. Close everything and then reopened WMC. Went to the Setup Live TV, and bam, it passed the TV Setup Data page!!?? Then it got to the downloading the EPG, and it hung there :-( I closed MC and then reopened it and now I gives me the live TV menu selections. Clicked on the Guide option, and it said no guide data available. But I clicked on the update EPG, and then a couple of minutes later it said it finished, and now I have a channel guide! I can click on the shows and the TV show plays!! What the heck is going on? But right now it kind of seems likes it working...
