For the record I had to install a Win Vista for because another project. Practically I never used it, and never played with its WMC. But I noticed two things. #1 It's way faster than the newer versions #2 It doesn't have the black screen problem in full screen mode from a remote connection (either RDP or VNC) which is a news for me Could be worth to investigate if it could be ported w/o much hassle. It would have a third advantage, it would be "universal", in case of success (likely) it would run from Vista to W10...
For people whose extenders disconnect after the latest update: Run _TestRights.cmd as administrator In the cmd box type: Code: cd "path to bin folder" ntrights +r SeServiceLogonRight -u "Local Service" icacls C:\Windows\explorer.exe /deny "Performance Monitor Users":F Restart Computer
Don't know if this helps, but I had the same exact problem as you when I first set this up. In my case turning off "background channel scan" in HDHR Setup is what finally enabled me to finish the guide download / setup.
Post #1 or there are a few other versions in my signature. The install instructions are in two files named Readme.txt and Workaround.txt The links in my signature will take you to the software and discussion/troubleshooting of the various versions.
I am so confused right now, I think this worked, but the reason I'm confused is I went so far as to reinstall, and these lines were in my modified install.bat Thanks for fixing my issue!
I think that update you mentioned, will UN-DO what the install.bat DID-DO. I suspected there was a more precise way to solve the problem. I knew about the power of TestRights. Maybe I'll remember to suggest it next time.
what I mean is I did the install.bat after the update as a fix attempt and it didn't work then. Either way, good to go now =)
That v12 is a different animal than what I am used to. Maybe it just this laptop, but I've noticed that when I make a big change, it doesn't happen right away, I usually have to let it sit for an hour before the change takes place. I have noticed several people comment similarly...like....I don't know what I did but it works now. I came back an hour later, and it was working. I'm sure you read the same things.
Does anyone know where Windows Media Center Stores Its Library File ? I want to generate a usable backup of the files and later to restore it on a different computer.
Trying your suggestions... Was it the dism scanhealth and restorehealth that worked or uninstalling those knowledge base microsoft updates? Thanks.
I never uninstalled any updates, so that wasn't it. Have you tried using the uninstaller from the v8 package? I would use that then reboot and try installing v12. That seems to be an easier fix for most people. If that doesn't work then try the dism repairs followed by sfc /scannow.
I have a Windows 10 Enterprise test system with my old TV Wonder 650 HD tuner card in it. I have had issues in my testing which typically get resolved by uninstalling and reinstalling MC. I do appreciate everything that's going on here, my only frustration is that Microsoft made all this work necessary and, due to the nature of this app, any Windows updates have us holding our breath and crossing our fingers. Personally, I'm fine with troubleshooting when things go bad, but my other half is much less forgiving and is the reason I have to look elsewhere for my "production" system. I'm still following along and testing things out on my 10 box and when I get 100% up on Kodi (probably in July or August), I'll be able to dedicate my 360s and DMA2200 to this project too (which I'm looking forward to).
Thanks again crash and scope. Hate to say anything but v12 MC on my Win10 machine has been working since late Saturday (so two days now). Recorded a couple of shows, played back over my TV, etc! I was just about ready to wipe my PC and try crash's Plan B with a Linux distro... Very cool site and awesome stuff you guys do here for us Windows minions..
Here is another fun little project. RDP Patch for Win10 to allow multiple sessions of WMC in Remote Desktop Connections. The photo illustrates 3 live across the top and 2 recorded TV across the bottom, playing on my TestWin7. RDP from phone WAN works too. Start reading around Post 3440... Early February. Hex-edits, manual OS injection, eventually there was a 1-click installer.
I am getting an exe file when I click download. Want to make sure I am not hitting one of those fake download buttons because usally it is 7z file. Is the reuploaded v8 an exe file ? This is same link in Crash's signature which I tried too. I Update: found link by expanding show button in main download post - but seems most are broken trying last one. --- no success, can't get a legit version of v8 - all I get is ads and popups
