Well turns out the update borked my windows install completely, Any attempt to run Dism recovery is all about useless. The /scanhealth and the /checkhealth both return that it is repairable but it will not repair. No mater where I try to put a working windows folder or img file. I used the Technet version mounted and also a working Windows(same build) folder from my laptop and it always returns "cannot find". I think where I am now, my only recourse is to do a windows repair, although I am dreading that. This computer has been running since windows 7 was first released and updated to every new OS there after. I have a TON of programs that I really didn't want to reinstall as well as games. I might just use my laptop for WMC for recording and transfer the recordings to my main PC to convert to MKV for playback. As all the programs and games work fine, right now. Unless someone has any other ideas, I'm willing to try anything. Windows features is empty and the fixes don't work. Windows update says I am up to date but as you know I am on a previous build. I never tried to run v.8. Was always install - reboot - uninstall. Should I try to install it and run it?
At this point just do an in place upgrade (install it on top of itself) either using the same media you used to install it or a newer one
Ok that's done and thanks for that recommendation. Now to test if it worked. Going to run the dism scan health to see what it says. Update: No component store corruption detected, The operation competed successfully. I am going to try and install V12 now and see what happens... TBC
Well installation of v.12 did not work. I got a 0x80070005 error which is access denied. HUH? Funny thing is, everything is in the ehome folder. When I try to start ehshell.exe I get an error I know there must be a workaround for this but what?
That's the antimatter of the error you got before You have the unpatched version installed. All you need are the patched files, the few ones you got before, you can replace them manually, but clearly there is still something wrong that prevented the second part of the installation to run. Anyway this situation is more common, and it's the one that usually gets fixed with the installation/uninstallation of the V8.
OK I can do that. I will uninstall v.12 then install v.8 and uninstall that. Then I will try 12 again. I looked in the dism.log file and saw 2 errors 0x80070005 and 0x80004002. The latter looks like something missing for Windows update?
Yes. Should I start v.8 before uninstalling it? Also should I run testrights again after uninstall and remove the leftover files?
The best way is to use the testright from v12 given nsudo is way more reliable than the old way to get the superadmin rights. Assuming your v8 is unpacked in the folder C:\WMC-V8 Launch the testright from the V12 installer then from that command type Cd Code: cd \WMC-V8\bin uninstall.bat This way there isn't even the need to install the V8 because the uninstaller inside the bin folders just runs w/o checking if WMC is installed
Well that didn't work..... Did exactly as said above to remove v8 and then install v12 and I am in the same boat as before.... Install says "Completed succesfully" but only 7 files installed into ehome folder, the same 7 as before. lol This is getting exhausting lol. What to do now? I am getting warnings in the dism.log stating failed to load the provider for PEProvider.dll, Wow64provider.dll & EmbeddedProvider.dll As well as Failed to get the IDismObject Interface - CDISMProviderStore::Internal_LoadProvider(hr:0x80004002) Unable to set the DLL search path to the servicing stack folder. C:\Windows may not point to a valid Windows folder
Not sure if you did the in place upgrade or not. If not, I strongly suggest to do that. Uninstall the wmc, mount the w10 iso, click on setup and choose to keep everything. You will get a brand new windows, with everything you had installed still in place, but almost surely with any corruption fixed. Once you have finished be sure to get all the updates from Windows Update, before starting to install the W12
This so Rocks, put off upgrading to winblows 10 due to media centre, figured I better as it will extend the serviceable life of this PC, which I built in 2009 to use Media centre on, had to do a fresh install of 7 before I could successfully upgrade, and now WMC is running without fault. Cudos!
Error: 267 The directory name is invalid. I am after some advice or ideas. I have tried multiple uninstalls, reboots and removal of ehome directory’s both in C/Windows and appdata without success. version 12 continues to fail with the error below and looking through the DISM and CBS logs doesn’t seem to shed any light on it. The system was a Win8.1 machine (that included WMC) and was upgraded to Win10 recently. The error would seem to indicate that it might be a simple fix, so any advice or a point in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks..... Just read few messages back we discussed the most common ways to fix this kind of problems. Would be pointless to start over. Anyway in your case could be just some leftover from win8. so I would install the v8 and uninstall it to cleanup the leftovers.
I could be wrong about this, but I thought it was written here somewhere that WMC needs to be un-installed/removed from Win8.1 prior to upgrading to Win10.
